The Broncos actually had a real dig last night, but they are just very very ordinary
Kevin Walters doesn't know what to do. He has no plan. Well, apart from burn the joint down and start again.
I still can't believe they let Walsh go, Dearden go and yet they kept an absolute spud like Gamble. Their halves are awful. They have no decent middle forwards. Their edge forwards don't provide enough, and their attack is pedestrian as fuck.
Payne Haas is far and away their best player.
and Kontoni Staggs has value but he hasnt played this year
Staggs is a gun. I think the idea is to play him the halves with Reynolds
They need a completely overhauled defensive system first and foremost.
I think TPJ's interview last night was telling, the entire mood of the place is broken. Call a guy in on his day off, a guy who wants to stay, and has value, and tell him he can go, even immediately? Broken club
here is the funny thing for me, I think the two best centres in the game personaly wont be playing centre, Staggs and Latrell. I dont think either is as good (or will be as good) in other positions. They will still go ok and in Latrells case can be good, but both for me are better in that centre role.

everyone gets fired in Brisbane
GM of Football Operations and Head of Performance both gone.

Latrell wanted fullback money.
Staggs i see as a continuation of the "get your best players always touching the ball" method. It doesn't always work. I would play Staggs wider as well.

So got on the Corporate gravy train to the game last night to suck up to some potential clients.
Work has Suncorp members tickets (in another place and time I posted I was hoping for the Blues game ... But clients are Queenslanders ...).
Thoughts:
I thought this was my first ever NRL game. But then I remembered going to the Warriors v NQ at Mt Smart sometime around 98 or 99. That was a godawful game. This one not so much.
May have been the seats - Suncorp is a fantastic viewing stadium. Had access to Members lounge (although food was ordinary btw). Seats on the very front of the first tier, between the 10 and 20m lines, opposite side to the cameras (left of screen if you were watching TB). (The end where Coates made the tackle, but other side of field).
(And it might have been that Warriors-NQ game was just crap ... think it was 8-0 them.)
Bunnies were just creating far too much space and making metres easily, even before they started scoring.
Not sure if I am correct but Bunnies looked bigger as a team. Kind of reminded me of my time here with the Fraser Coast Mariners playing teams that were bigger, but we kept trying our hearts out but we just weren't quite as good.
Biggest cheer of the night was Coates's tackle.
But many Southern Sydneysiders in attendance (hope they kept their covidity to themselves ... ) who out cheered the locals.
Very very flat and unengaged crowd. I thought Auckland rugby crowds back in the day were unenthusiastic, but gee they were flat.
To be expected given recent results maybe?
Biggest cheer of the night though was Coates's tackle.
And also, to game organisers everywhere. CAN THE FUCKING MUSIC!! A lesson in how to really kill the atmosphere is playing loud pop music over the top of the anticipation of the kick off way up until after the first tackle. Just deflates any chance for the crowd to get into it. (Happened in the AB v Wobs test last year too. Hate.)
Was a little embarrassed that I really had no clue who was who, apart from Latrell Mitchell. Worked out a few blokes, including Lodge about whom I recall thinking "ha! Glad the Warriors didn't pick him up" ... oops, maybe.
Couple of rule changes caught me out, like the restart ptb in the middle of the field for ball in touch.
Shows how much I deserve corporate tickets to league ...
Anyway, a good fun evening.

Accidental head contact should never be a bin
Guy slips in to a tackle. Tackler gets binned.
Contact sports run by lawyers
-
Penrith are kissed on the dick by the refs.
-
@mariner4life and it's not like they need the help.
Gus just gave an origin wrap for a missed tackle....mind you it was a great chase.
-
@crazy-horse I won't hide my disdain for the game of Netball. It was obviously to keep everyone awake.
Note: the girls are fucking athletes. I just don't like the game itself.
-
Ridiculous. The roosters haven't touched the ball for 15 minutes
Sin bins are massive
-
Gus and Fittler are actually enjoyable to listen to, together. They just constantly take the piss. If you don't listen to the bile Gus spews when he's in expert mode. I love how people consistent ly give other people wraps for Nathan Clearys abilities. Like Joey, Trent Barrett and Brandy. But never give his dad any credit lol.
-
@mariner4life turn it up pal we all know the roosters are the golden child of the NRL.
-
Wow what happened to the roosters to blow a 12 point lead and kept scoreless for the rest of the game, JWH is a massive grub always runs into a tackle with his elbow up. Glad we got the 2 points so we should be 1st equal at the end of the weekend with the Storm who I can’t see losing.
-
@mikey07 lol righto
I can't stand the roosters but
Half their fucking team is out for most of the year, or forever.
A shitty sin bin, playing a team at the top.of their game that has all their players available. The result was a foregone conclusion. The only surprise was the 0-12 scoreline
-
Two stupid sinbins yesterday and both had an impact on the game, hard to know what could have happened. If ever mitigating factors could/should have been used..there were two great examples.
Cleary is at a different level to most this year regardless
