Finaly!
-
@african-monkey Griffin is a good coach who is by all accounts a hard task master who focuses on system. That was going to be good for the Dragons given what they had before him. His problem is he loses the players by making them work too hard, and seems to have a ceiling of what he can get out of a team. It looks like he is the coach you hire right before your "premiership coach".
-
@mariner4life Oh yeah definitely he's never gonna take a team to a premiership, but he'll get his sides competing and playing finals footy regularly which is a good fit for the Dragons right now.
He's a bit like Madge at the Tigers in terms of how hard he works his players. Some thrive off it, a lot hate it.

@mackerzzzz Their problems run far deeper that Anthony Milford tbh.

Yes but it's a start
-
@mackerzzzz It is a start but their defence is shot to bits. They miss simple 1 on 1 tackles that wouldn't be acceptable at schoolboy level and make basic errors going into contact especially in their own half.
Yeah Milford's out now, but it won't change a thing. Croft isn't an NRL standard half and Dearden is there well before his time.
The only one in that Broncos side that can hold his head high is Payne Haas. The kid is genuine world class.
-
@african-monkey they compete hard for short periods, normally about 15 minutes. then errors start to stack up, basic tackles are missed, the other team scores a couple of quick ones, and they are shot mentally.
Their roster doesn't have forwards to play through the middle at pace. Their halves are offering nothing, and their best backline player available is a winger. And there is an on-field leadership vacuum.

John Morris at Cronulla is getting shafted.
He's got a pretty average list in to the 8 every year since he had to take over from Flanagan, and yet cronulla are going to cut him straight away and bring in a caretaker. Word is they think they are getting Craig Fitzgibbon from the Roosters and Cameron Ciraldo from the Panthers as a joint ticket.
Not sure it's going to be popular, especially with the players if Johnson is to be believed.

He's been doing some good things with them this season to.
They look a good side
-
@mariner4life Hmmm yeah, I guess an assistant gig somewhere will be his next move. He's being treated the same way as Dean Pay was at the Dogs, there to help them clear out their cap and go through some tough times before being moved on for someone who gets to do what they want with the money haha.

and for that they choooose, Trent Barrett?
I don't like Cronulla. Even with the massive collection of grubs they assembled slowly diluting, i still don't like them.
But Morris seems like a stand up guy, and this looks way harsh.
-
@mariner4life Yeah especially after Barrett's time at Manly, but he's already got Addo-Carr, Cotric, Burton and possibly Brandon Smith. If they can add a ball playing edge forward, they could be handy next season.
Yeah I agree that Morris is getting a raw deal, similar to Dean Pay, but it looks like Fitzgibbon's gonna be the man to take them forward and is highly regarded apparently (as is every assistant coach to come out of the Storm and Roosters haha).

Is burton and addo-Carr confirmed?
If so that dogs team should be good next season
-
@mackerzzzz Yes they are. It'll be different for Addo-Carr as he'll be playing at fullback so he'll have a massive role and a lot to learn quickly. They also need Brandon Smith to sign as they don't have a good enough 9 and as I said earlier, a lethal ball playing forward that can create second phase play and bend the line. Their forwards are full of toliers who get through a lot, but don't trouble defences. Napa has been a massive disappointment for me at the dogs.

Napa has definitely let them down. THere are a lot of guys around the comp like that. cap management is pretty hard

Yeah he's supposed to be their game breaker but the only thing he breaks is him self

Fitzgibbon is very highly rated, even warriors chased hard and failed to get him (he turned down a few teams in the last 18 months), but to @African-Monkey's point, still untested at this level.
While it may be tough for Morris at least he has better cattle than a lot of teams to work with and with that roster should have delivered better in my view, although I am always happy to see Cronulla fail.
Arguably with the amount of injuries and the new HIA assessments/rules (which are still a joke if they are truly focused on player welfare), probably shows why you need to have greater depth than ever before in your club, even outside your 30. You cant cover every position with depth but I would be surprised to see too many teams loading up on big props like they were before the rule changes. Think you still need a unit but they need to be mobile. As highlighted above, the spine is of utmost importance still and teams like the doggies and us still have problems in this area, even if everyone is fit.

In what is terrible news for the Fus, his hamstring now classed as 6 weeks worthy, which ironically is probably good news for the warriors as his form/work rate among others has been diabolical this year. He wont be named today. Assuming Montoya passes HIA, Hayze Perham, Paul Turner and Rocco Berry are likely contenders from the squad for the other spot.
