Australia v India

He's 22, in basically his first year of serious cricket.
He's not waited long at all.
This is not his first year of serious cricket. He's had multiple Sheffield Shield seasons. Aussies got excited about him back in the 2018/19 season when he averaged 54
That was when he was called up to the Aus squad but didn't make the XI
I agree that he hasn't waited too long. However he has been on the fringes for a while. Part of the press hype is because they can play up the drama angle - his head knocks & stress issues etc

@Duluth my bad. Two years.
It's actually his 4th Sheffield Shield season. But it's been 3 seasons of contributing.
I thought he was worth a look a couple of years ago. Particularly when you consider who he was competing with. However being on the fringes for a couple of years might be the best thing particularly given the mental health break.

Sure enough, Jadeja with the breakthrough.
Was a catching practise type of shot too!. Wade comes in and sweeps his first delivery.

The serious hype around Will has been going on for at least 18 months. A number of experts were calling for his name.
After all the controversy around the side and Smithβs demotion / banning etc, I reckon itβs probably the right time for the kid to be in the side.
But the Aussies do know how to pump it up. Even Gilly was egging it up, βthe fairy tale start is overβ. Yes there is always a little more excitement with a debut, but fairy tale??

Is it just that I haven't watched him much lately, or has Smith gotten magnitudes worse with his idiosyncrasies? The chat, the pointing, the jumping around, the reactions after every ball, its pretty wild.
Nah he has been doing that for quite some time. The more he gets in form the more he does it, I reckon.
I LOVE watching him bat.

So 267/6 after 90 overs. If it was the end of day one right now you'd have to say India with their nose in front, but Smith could yet drag Australia back in front.
Draw was looking the favourite when Smith and Labuschagne were cruising but a result more likely now.

Poor captaincy from Rahane today. He left bowling Jadaja until far too late, while leaving Ashwin on half the day to bowl a ton of innocuous deliveries, which when they did turn, were generally too straight.
Could be a touch of brilliance that they held Jadaja back for day 2 π

Or Australia might have been all out by now

Nah it was destiny that Smith score a ton today...
