Mysterious ways...
Actually I just think the Indians historically focused on batting and their neighbours the opposite. Now it is a more complete game (for everybody).
Yeah true, India have a much richer history of batting greats ( probably to the detriment of their bowlers ) but I suppose Miandad, Inzi the spud and Younis Khan had terrific records.
And it's not like India didn't have bowlers (Kapil Dev), but they are generally more famous for their spinners than their quicks. Pakistan by contrast have always seemed to be able to churn out a number of fast medium or quick bowlers, some of whom were excellent all time talents like Wasim and Waqar
I wonder if it didn't start with Imran Khan? Inspired generations by being waayyy cool. Similar pitches in both countries I think. It's an interesting quirk how one made gun quicks and one didn't.
Yeah its peculiar. Ethnically the same, apart from the afghani looking guys in the current Pakistani team. You could apply similar logic to Kapil, yet they make lots of medium pacers but no real quicks

Imran was an absolute legend. Fuck all in it between him and Paddles as bowlers but he was a much better batsman. That's just a cricketing freak as far as I'm concerned.

India are going at a very old fashioned run rate too. What exactly is their game plan here ?
-
There’s just something about an 7th, 8th (9th or 10th) wicket partnership that goes beyond 50+ that makes test cricket fantastic.
Jinx alert, but these two look rock solid with odd bit of luck

Although these guys are 98 off 173. Excellent.

.....and back themselves to skittle Oz cheaply ?

@Siam and we're taking about the one over his head or the inside edge earlier?
Over his head

Right. Didn't see the replay as I had to leave the room

Nah, watch the rain, scramble a draw and keep the gav/border trophy then return home to heroes welcome against the poms. Sound plan

That makes sense but just seems so defeatist, not to mention old fashioned. Test matches are usually played with much more aggressive tactics these days.

India are playing with a complete second string bowling lineup. Missing Bumrah, Shami, Jadeja, Ashwin and Yadev.

Yes got 'im!!!
After decades we've finally beat down "the Aussie" to have a kiwi cricket type whine 😉. It's taken a lot of perseverance and losses but finally we've got the Aussies stooping to a good old kiwi cricket, "it's not fair"🤣
How about a role reversal: you've travelled to India twice in 3 years, had unprecedented series success, used 20 players, your best aren't there, you've been locked up for 2 months and you've got a chance to keep the trophy that has eclipsed the Ashes as most sought after. I think most of Australia would welcome a draw and a trophy🙂

Oz want it played at a rate of knots. This pace (which isn’t that bad) would be frustrating the hell out of the Aussies. That’s a psychological win for the Indians in my books.
