@mariner4life yeah, it's all changed, player power! All LeBrons fault, right?
But I can't blame KD here, I wouldn't want Simmons either. Partially because of his obvious flaws and inability / unwillingness to improve on them, but mainly because he seems like a Grade A fuckwit. Looks like a cancerous presence. It's a shame, because his game would be clearly complimentary to the Nets, if he could make FT's at 70% they'd be unstoppable.
whereas Kyrie is...
LBJ helped fuel it and even you know it. He opened their eyes to what is possible

Kyrie is a nutcase for sure.
Be interesting to see if the owners and league try to clamp down on this stuff - it's not healthy having players demanding trades and sitting out. AD, Harden, Simmons, Kawhi. They should have their salaries immediately suspended as a starting point

the next bargaining should be interesting for sure.

And in the biggest surprise, ultimate team mate Kyrie Irving can not join the Nets as he has not been vaxxed, or he gets an exemption which is unlikely. Because of the rules in NY Irving can't practice there, can't play games, can't play in Denver, San Francisco and a bunch of other cities with similar rules
saw a great description of this idiot the other day
a contrarian without a cause
just a deadshit consumed by his own self-importance trying to pass it off as a conscience
I bet Marks sits at home trying to work out ways to trade him for Simmons
Apparently KD vetoed that
yeah, i know. Fuck trying to be the guy tasked with running an NBA team. you don't run shit.
The inmates run the asylum

So under current rules the players sit out if they aren't vaxxed. And I don't think there is any provision for teams so censure them or cut them

Kyrie will get you a bucket and when they rest KD during games, Kyrie has taken over. Ben goes missing.
Kyrie is a phenomenal player but I canβt stand all this stuff. Even down to not wearing NBA socks in games. Idiot π

On this player power shit, I agree it's fucking garbage. Re moving on Irving and possibly bringing in Simmons for him, being vetoed by Durant, I agree with suspending his salary as a point of action. I wouldn't miss him. And I think the short term pain for the Nets would be worth it if such a move started turning the tide back towards the GMs running the rosters.

Without wanting to turn the NBA thread into a Covid thread, Isaac articulates his position pretty well

Unhelpful when trying to encourage others to get the vax. But he has had covid19 and is bound to have passive immunity at some level. But the league can't have disruption that affects the product, so it is as much a labour force issue as a health issue for them

@voodoo said in NBA Season - now 21/22:
@canefan has any vaccinated player come out and said they'll refuse to play with / against an unvaccinated player?
Not that I know of. But there are many cities whose laws prohibit unvaccinated players from practicing or playing. For example San Fran and NYC so any non vaxx players stand to miss all home games and all home practices. That doesn't take into account away games in cities with similar rules. The league can't have its players not being able to play

Well the league already has its players REFUSING to play whenever they feel like it.
It's an odd situation, tricky stuff

Are we talking about load management? In terms of skiving off on a regular basis, Kyrie immediately comes to mind. I really don't like him, great on court skills but just a stupid ignorant self absorbed person

Load management sure, but more Kawhi, Harden, Simmons, AD - all refusing to play and forcing their way out of teams. And getting paid to do it.

Right I get you. The pendulum has certainly swung way to the top players' favour. And with endorsements dwarfing wages now its unlikely to change.

I read that about 95% of NBA players are now vaccinated.
That's a big number. The outliers like Kyrie will surely be brought to heel soon. Although he's just the kind of jerk who would hold out longer just to make his point
