Landale was better than the minutes he got would suggest

Awesome image
Be interesting to see the same graphic for the playoffs. You'd expect similar, but maybe not as pronounced as defences force more mid-range stuff

Also, not NBA, but a funny shot nonetheless (they unsurprisingly lost by 100 points)
I tried clicking on the image a few times trying to get the video to play so I could watch the 'shot'. Then the penny dropped...

Definitely shows that the game was less 'manufactured' back then with the variety of shot locations. The top 10 scorers in 01-02 were Iverson, Shaq, Paul Pierce, T-Mac, TD, Kobe, VC, Dirk, Mailman and the Glove - only Paul Pierce and VC attempted more than 5 3's per game. But both of them plus Dirk, Mailman, TD, Kobe and T-Mac all loved the post up mid range game, particularly baseline. MJ was still in the league in 01-02 jacking up 20+ shots a game too and pretty much all of those were mid range post ups.
What's interesting is the shot increase between the dotted circle and the foul line - another Steph Curry influence of what is essentially now a mid range floater.

It's funny how the younger gen have such recency bias. Maybe our gen does too for the guys we saw.
But I have zero doubt that MJ would average 40ppg in today's game. The pace, the no hand checks, the prioritising of the 3. He was a good shooter , he averaged 33% for 3 in a league where it wasn't an advised shot to take. Imagine he had license to shoot 8-10pg, I'm sure he'd average 37%+, and the flow-on effect to opening up the lane for him would be amazing. All those low% low post fadeaways from 15 feet would largely disappear.
Guys like T-Mac, Dirk, even Kobe, would all double their 3pta too.
The guy I wonder about is Bird. Can you imagine him in today's game? He could play the way Luka plays, jacking 12 x 3's pg, facilitating the offence. His body would have held up so much better too without him banging away inside. He would still average 10 rebounds, and could easily have been a consistent 30/10/10 guy in his prime on c. 45/40/90 shooting.
To your Steph point on the high FT shot, I'd also credit CP3 for that. His little herky jerky move before he stops and pops has been a signature.

@voodoo the post up game was an actual physical contest. Lots of body checking, grabbing and chicken wings.

Yeah, it was brutal back then. No wonder Karl Malone developed that 18ft baseline jumper....

@canefan maybe this is a controversial view, but do we really think he should be banned for life, completely cancelled? I don't have access to all the detail of the accusations, and I don't want to diminish his actions, but he doesn't seem to be in the same league as Sterling. $10m and a 1yr ban isn't nothing!

It may all come out in the end. Whatever he's done has been enough to enrage the players

I wouldn't take whatever Lebron says publicly as evidence....and as someone else pointed out, CP3 had no issues playing there...
But yeah, maybe there is more to come out. Stephen A making some wild accusations around Sarver having dirt on other owners which resulted in a lesser sanction than Silver would have otherwise imposed....

@Magpie_in_aus I read Sohi's piece on the Ringer, was pretty disappointed to be honest. Is this better?
