couple of other interesting stories
Apparently James Harden is not taking up his player option, but will sign a cheaper deal so the Sixers can build the roster.
Patty Mills declined his Nets option and will enter free agency. Must have loved his week or so up here. Mills to Taipans confirmed.
Mills signs 2 year deal with Nets.
Good for him and Ben.

Brunson signs 4 year $104m deal with the Knicks. That’s overs in my view, but good on Rick’s son!
Knicks need something else though

The fucking Lakers man
Fuck their roster up. Have no picks. No trade value. Absolutely shit the bed. Miss even the play in
And yet, somehow, they are going to talk thr Nets in to giving the Kyrie.
Fuck this franchise. The Spurs are burning it down to start from the bottom. These fluffybunnies just have to wait for shit to fall in to their laps.

Funny thing is, until they went all in on KD and Kyrie, Marks was trying to build his version of San Antonio in Brooklyn. Character guys, family atmosphere. I wouldn't blame him for trying to hit the home run, but it was high risk and it isn't going to pay off. The Nets are not a desirable trade destination traditionally, he was probably better served trying to build via the draft

I can see why Marks did it, but it was not the way he learned from the master.

Or maybe the decision was made for him by ownership? Who knows

Marks absolutely did the right thing. If you have budget, and the chance to build that roster, you go for it every time. If Kyrie
played the whole seasonwasnt such a toxic team mate, it could have been very different. They just never hit a rhythm.Fixed. KD made a bad call hitching his wagon to Irving. And when they got Harden they had another guy who has a history of quitting on teams

Can we talk about Minnesota giving up three future unprotected firsts for... Rudy Gobert?
Easily the biggest overpay in recent memory. They've got a nice team now, sure, but they are an injury or two away from absolute disaster. It took the Nets five years to get over the Pierce/KG trade.

I think that whole situation was compounded by the deal they had made with Joe Johnson (a couple of seasons prior) who at that time was one of the top 3 or 4 paid players in the league. Made their ability to do much else to get KG and PP so much harder.

Sets the market high on a Durant trade too

Warriors clean out?
Seems Porter Jr and Payton II both gone?

Time for GP2 to get paid. He was on the minimum this season and has spent most of his career on two-way contracts.
Would’ve been a massive step to match what was coming in for him, plus pay the luxury tax required to match, when they have the sort of books they currently have.

Some (ridiculous) talk about Warriors making a move for KD again.
Poole, Kaminga plus 1-2 others going to the Nets and then Wiggins going to a 3rd team.
No wonder Draymond was shooting his mouth off saying they’ll win 3 of the next 4 😉

they seem to be in such a good spot this would be a weird move
Just won a ring. A good young core in place learning off 3 of their best ever to be the next generation. Do you sell the farm for another ring? Especially when there is no reason you couldn't run it back with a few tweaks?
For the integrity of the league i hope to shit the Nets just send KD and Kyrie to where ever they can get the best deal. Fuck those guys.
-
@mariner4life I thought that. But then I thought - they could equal or beat the 90s Bulls if they get this right. Every ring from this point on matters a heap in terms of history.
So maybe you do put it all on the line for another ring. Who cares about the future if you win five or six rings.

It's interesting to see the Nets dissolve in such a dramatic way.
The so-called 'superteam era' might be dead. Because outside of the bubble Lakers (asterisk season), when has it actually worked?
You could make a case for the KD Warriors, but the foundations of that team were still organic. They just added a superstar on top.
Outside of that, blowing your team up to chase superstars has a near zero per cent success rate. The teams that have thrived? The Bucks. The 19 Raptors. The 22 Celtics. The Suns. All teams whose core came through the draft.
It also helps that the players who have gravitated to 'superteams' tend to be cancerous/weird personalities - Russ, Harden, Kawhi, Kyrie...
