@shark I may not like the bloke, but anyone who tries to say he isn't in the top handful to ever play the game is deluded.
Just say it, it won't hurt you, you can still hate him - he's clearly #2.

I concur.

Uncanny similarity, both absolute warriors. No question Ja is on the right path and has what it takes - biggest query will be whether he can stay healthy as he seems to have a total disregard for his body!
Hope Ja can stay healthy and also adjust his shot slightly.
AI played with that reckless abandon too and amazing he still got probably 12 highly productive seasons and then the final 3 were still pretty good. So hopefully we get to see as much as Ja.
I think being skinny and light can be a huge advantage for longevity.
Makes Lebron's longevity at a super explosive 260lbs even more astonishing.
What I’ll say is that given AI spent half his career on the hardwood after being knocked to the ground hard drive after hard drive, I’m still astonished he didn’t have more injuries with the knocks he took.
If you are largely a perimeter player and skinny (and can shoot) sure you could get JJ Reddick type years but the ability for skinny guys to take all the knocks would be pretty hard. I remember years ago when Isaiah Thomas was still playing and a graphic came up of him and showed all the injuries he had to his body. It was crazy.

@mariner4life Yep. I saw a stat yesterday re the best scoring years achceived by 37 year olds and he's around 5ppg ahead of the next best (think it was KAJ), and he's only around 1ppg off the scoring title. Phenomenal is right.
apparently he leads the "most points scored by a player aged [x]" for every single age bracket there is. I guess Kareem would be closing in on the latter age groups at some point if LeBron slows down
I’ve often thought that Lebron will be quite different to MJ in how their careers finish. I can’t see Lebron having a couple of ‘Washington years’. He’ll either be the man or not. That’s not a slight on him just that they are different. Given his mates have either retired or about too, the only thing is him holding on to possibly play with his son!!!

and he is massively driven by legacy and the worlds perception of him, probably more so than any other player past or present!

Agreed in my opinion
My phrasing was more around the old dudes who swear by their generation

MJ at the Wizards isn't even bad when you factor everything in

Just to clarify, we're talking 2nd behind Tim Duncan right?

On that is everyone happy that we have Duncan, LeBron and MJ at the PF, SF and SG spots in an all time starting five?
Not from me, but picking 1 and 5 would have a bit of debate I reckon.
Magic at 1 for me.

Nah, can't have Magic, MJ, LeBron and TD on the same starting 5 in today's game. Nowhere enough shooting.
Picking best all time players is a very different beast from picking an all time starting 5
If I start with MJ and LeBron and TD (not necessarily my choices), I need a Curry type at the 1. You need the shooting, you can give up the D. Heck, you could even argue that Kyrie would be ideal there. I'd also rather that TD played the 5 and then we can shift LeBron to the 4 and add a shooting 3, that KD bloke would go OK.
So Curry, MJ, KD, LeBron and TD. I reckon that'd go OK?

He's #1 for me on total body of work (MJ had higher peak), but we've flogged that horse enough

The big O or Stockton are also worthy of consideration at PG.
Stockton was a 38% 3pt shooter in an era where it was frowned upon. Dirty fucker, but he could have been amazing with a licence to shoot.

With Kobe, Bird and Shaq off the bench 😎
-
I'd probably go for Stockton at PG. Centre is a tough one as I totally get the small ball argument and that positions are a lot more interchangeable than they ever used to be, but I'm still inclined to pick a 'specialist' and the tinkering can come during a game using the bench. So with that in mind, my personal favourite was The Admiral but it's hard to look past The Dream.
