@canefan the money for Van Fleet is ridiculous.
And if LaMelo makes an all NBA team next year he’s up for $50+ mill per year for the next 5….
-
Still some “loose ends” after the end of the trade period. Top 2 are 1/Will the Blazers trade Dame to Heat or elsewhere? 2/Which James Harden will show up to 76’ers training camp?

It’s hard finding a 3rd team that will want to be a part of that deal and ultimately be responsible for making the Heat a contender (again). There’s no way a team in the East would be joining that trade.
The irony is that it’s usually the Blazers that are a third or fourth team being joined in a big trade like this with odd pieces (with workable contracts) going out the door.

This feels like an entirely reasonable take, which is why the Nets will probably do it.
Saw news this morning that Bronny had a heart attack at USC training 😳
-
@gt12 if Washington hadn’t already been so active during this period I would’ve said them for sure!
Yeah scary stuff for young Bronny. One of my favourite players growing up was Reggie Lewis from the Celtics, even wore 35 during my High School days and when I just heard that Bronny had collapsed, I did think the worst.

Jaylen Brown signs the supermax extension with Boston - over $300m USD over 5 years.
I'm skeptical whether the Celtics can win a title with Tatum & Brown but they probably didn't have any other realistic options.
Feels like they way overpaid for a very good player who had no left hand in the ECF last season

WTF $304M!! Over 5-years. He’ll be making over $69M in year 5. This is for a player is the second option on the Celtics.
I know the Celtics were in a similar position to the Mavericks with Kyrie but far out that is a lot of money for someone who prob 4th of 5th best two guard in the league.

That's superstar money. I don't believe JB is a superstar. At least not yet. Maybe never

The economics of the NBA at the top end isn’t so much about how much the player is worth but paying overs so no one else can get him.
If they didn’t sign him to a super max given his all-NBA selection then other teams could and guess what they are now a contender. Boston management would get the boot from the owners.

I hear you. I think Ainge assembled the core of the team, with players who are very good, and maybe one in Tatum bordering on great. They just aren't quite as good as other better teams in the conference

Exactly. One of the analysts was saying the other day that free agency isn’t really a thing anymore for the top end players. Teams have to keep them under contract to maximize potential assets, which is why a no trade clause is needed Dame…
Talk today of Harden to the Knicks. No way they would be that dumb after being patient for this long. They should be waiting for Embiid.

I'd like to see the NBA ditch max salaries for players. Leave the team caps, but let the stars get paid.
What would Steph's contract go to - $100m? Giannis $120m?
You'd see every team pay overs for their 1 star then have to fill the roster out with disgruntled, entitled 2nd tier guys and role players getting the crumbs they deserve...

@voodoo surely there’s some sort of kickback going to Looney. For a guy that important to their success and that loyalty and he’s on such low money

The possible sleeper in this trade is the Suns getting Nurkic. He will play a role that Ayton hasn’t/won’t, and they won’t be in a bind about getting him minutes because of that fat extension. Will allow Phoenix to play different combinations of small ball.
He might be a punk but Grayson Allen is a nice piece too off the bench for some scoring too.

lol, Harden to teh Clippers
George, Kawhai, Westbrook and Harden
