New Zealand v West Indies

We are way on top but only because the WI can't catch to save themselves. Fuck me they dropped some sitters, they should be all over us after putting us in on that pitch. Not good enough at this level
Generally if you bowl first you need to roll through the opposition for 150 - 200 or you are behind the 8 ball. That said this Basin pitch doesn't seem to break up much, and given how green it was today it'll probably be best for batting on days 4/5. There's still a big mental hurdle to get over batting last though, and we have a quality bowling lineup.

Well done Nicholls. Listening on the radio the innings sounded as streaky and lucky as you could possibly get, but what an important knock.
Nicholls has the distinction of getting the 99th and 100th test century at the Basin.

Lunch
422 for 8
128 runs in the session
Wags tantalizingly close to fiddy

Love to see him get there in his 50th test.
The amusing thing about all the short bowling to him is that it's like "well you do it to us, so here is some of your own medicine", except he knows how to hook and pull and they go out of the park (even if a top edge).
There are some lessons for the bowlers bowling to The Wags (I nearly said "learnings" there, and would have had to punch myself).

@Bovidae I think they do both now, Wags for 50 and then bat on
If he was on say 20 and we 422 at lunch we declare, but given the current position we maximise the first innings score

Up vote for lessons verse learnings.
His ridden his luck with the short ones though.
Two dropped at fine leg and more than one miscue.

Bat till they're all out unless they get past 500 or the pitch will turn into a road tomorrow.
I know it looks lush, but the last few years pitches in NZ look like green monsters but really just don't seam like they look like they will.
The grass is there to keep something in the pitch but doesn't make it unplayable early.
