2020 Māori All Blacks

@Rapido I also wonder why this particular team has to benefit the PI Unions, as Pacific Rugby Welfare puts it. This is not the (future) Super Rugby team (as a pathway to test rugby for PI players). It's a team similar to the Māori ABs, a non-test representative team for players of a certain heritage, who are playing rugby in NZ.
-
They've invited foreign interference into their domestic selections, funding, structure.
They are fools.
They will have 4 voices (The 3 island unions plus Pacific Welfare) constantly in the media of which I doubt any of the 4 will ever all be happy at the same time.
This is just some end-of-season jolly.
Imagine when the real business starts.
I mean myself, and many others on this board, still resent Ian Foster as the most public figure in a Waikato Rugby Union operated Chiefs franchise from an ownership model structure from 15 years ago. NZRU will make nothing but resentments in this foray.
-
@Rapido As far as I can see, NZR's whole discussion of future Super rugby options has been an absolute shambles.
They've fucked off the Australians. They've fucked off the Pacific. The South Africans have fucked off.
And they've ended up getting pretty much nothing that they proposed.

Wait, what’s going on here. I thought this was just a one off game between two Baa Baa teams and has nothing to do with any Pasifika super rugby franchises?
-
@Nepia Yes, this is a one-off match. But they were stupid enough to give it the same name as the Pacific franchise that hopes to join SR in 2022.
I hope we can keep that discussion out of this thread. The Pasifika SR team thread can be found here:

You want the people of the fern to stick to their lanes?
Impossible.

Hmmm , I hope the last paragraph is nothing more than rumours ...
What a whinging bunch of shunts!
WTF does this game have to do with those unions? This whole pasifika team in super rugby thing is going to be a non stop whingefest about the team not getting enough resources, not getting the respect they deserve, not getting enough home games, not getting enough top players from other sides blah blah blah. That tweet and the lawsuit are the tip of the iceberg.
Funny how you never hear these people being grateful for the NZ rugby system turning hundreds of pacific islanders into highly paid athletes playing all over the world. The alternative earning capacity of the vast majority of them would have been significantly less had they not gone through that system.

This is what really pisses me off.

side doesnt look 'evenly' spread to me...how many years has it been M10 Cup now?
If not for Covid, woudl this game even be played? I mean December rugby in NZ....yeah happens every year!
Think people are reading far too much into the squad.
-
@taniwharugby Yeah, I think they were just looking for a game to play for the Maori ABs and they had to find an opponent. They could have opted for the NZ Baabaas (which I would have preferred), but "supporting Pasifika rugby" is in fashion, so that's what they went with. It's a good way to get a bit more in NZR's coffers.
