Spot on - Tiger went on his 99-04 run having taken over from Duval.
-
ok so who was good then for a bit, but would be a surprising choice.
Vijay?
Some rando who i remember having an awesome run like Davis Love III?
-
@mariner4life yeah I thought Montgomery or Garcia maybe, but not sure either even made #1, spent alot of time in Tigers shadow.

Vijay is correct. He took over from Tiger in 2004 and then they swapped it between them a few times until Tiger's 2005 run.

Vijay was #1 more than once? that's pretty cool.

And the answers are
2010 - the player who took over was Lee Westwood for 17 weeks followed by Kaymer, Westwood, Donald, McIlroy - a golden period for European golf. In fact no American was number 1 again until Woods in 2013.
2014 - the player who took over was Adam Scott for 11 weeks followed by Rory for a year before Spieth first hit number 1.

I watched LIV golf on the telly for the first time just now. Could only stomach it for a couple of minutes. Is it normal to have loud music and announcements while the players are teeing off. It reminded me of the darts.

I think that is part of their schtick

I've been watching a lot more LIV lately. Adelaide was great and Singapore was pretty cool too but I was probably only interested in that as I was at Sentosa the week before and saw the course being set up for it.

Kazuma declared PGA Aus order of merit champion with one tournament still to go.
Locks in his DP World Tour card after an awesome first season as pro (only turned pro in November), and also a starting spot at the Open! And now he get's an invite to the USA PGA Championship next week at Valhalla. Will be a massive step up for him. He really doesnt hit the ball far at all so it could look pretty funny vs some of his playing partners (not that I am expecting him to get much TV coverage during the tournament).

PGA championship about to start at Valhalla, which isn’t an overly exciting course but it’s got some length and some pretty thick and lush looking rough. Forecast isn’t super flash either.
Foxy off early - 1137pm nz time tonight and Kazuma Kobori about 430am NZ. KK may struggle a bit with the length as doesn’t hit the ball far at all but would be awesome if he could make the cut.
Scheffler the shortish fav again (and would get him half way to the season major grand slam) but thinking that Brooks and Bryson could be a couple of golfers to watch who could go well this weekend.
Oh and how about Rory, won his last major in 2014 last time it was here and he’s coming in with good form after winning his last two starts. Or will he just crash and burn??
Can’t wait….love major golf!!

Interesting opening round with Schauffele going super low with a 62 to end at -9, 3 ahead of Finau and Theegala. Rory just one shot behind them then a whole lot at -4 and -3 including a number of big names (Scheffler, Brooks, Bryson, Cam Smith, etc).
The kiwis are battling a bit - Fox +1 and Kobori +2 (got a lot more time TV coverage than I expected). Will need to play very well to make the weekend as anything other than a spectator.
