@dice That would be great, although surprising, considering 2 of the 3 AFAIK are not eligible for any of the PI nations. I think only Enari is.

I wonder what the salary cap for MP and FD is compared to the NZ teams? Obviously none of these teams can compete with the European and Japanese clubs, but is it enough to keep a lot of NZ-based PI players from looking off-shore.

@bovidae i heard somewhere they were getting assitance from World Rugby , big thing for me is what process they have in place for injury cover , eg will they have a wider training group ..?or will it be an extended squad..?

I think over $2 million NZD p.a. (split I assume) between MP and the Drua.

@steven-harris I'd assume major investors (NZR, World Rugby, private investment) will have Moana Pacifica board-level representation. Maybe NZR represents World Rugby on MP board, not sure on the politics there.

Suspect for MP and the Drua a salary budget is approved at board level as a percentage of projected TV and other revenue rather that an absolute cap. To be reviewed vs revenue and profit/loss after Season 1.

Had a quick chat with Ramsey Tomokino , I mentioned the names that have I have seen on the forum and he confirmed most were correct apart from Ma Nonu who has decided to take a contract in the MLR .
He could not confirm the launch date , but once he gets it he will get back to me.
I did mention all these lads and was in agreement

    Sekope Kefu
    Christian leliiafano
    Henry Stowers
    Solomone Funaki
    Sione Tuipulotu
    Eri Enari
    Lolagi Visnia
    Lincoln McClutchie
    Alamanda Motuga

Also mentioned Sam Slade , and he was definitely on their radar .
    Anybody heard anything..?

@steven-harris So James McOnie saying they had "plundered the Hawke's Bay Magpies" is true! Four of them in that list!

    Is Danny Toala off contract?

You'd think Neria Fomai will be in the mix.

@dice Danny Toala was only re-signed for one year (2021) by the Canes and I've heard nothing about him re-signing, but that doesn't mean he hasn't. Hurricanes' comms has seriously deteriorated since they appointed a new media person.

Toala and Fomai are indeed both names you'd expect to be in the mix.

Do you mean for the Hurricanes or the MP team? If you are meaning the former then that would be a surprise as that would mean the WRFU controlled Hurricanes outfit would not be able to shovel in a couple more stock standard schoolboy superstars they unearth from outside of their supposed Lower North Island catchment area.

Toala certainly seemed/seems to get very few chances at the Canes. I wouldn't be surprised if he's looking elsewhere - since debuting at the end of 2019 he's barely played the last two seasons.

@kiwimurph Yeah, even with the talent that the Canes had in their squad, it just didn't make sense that he didn't get more opportunities. That one game against the Blues in which he played next to PU-J was great. Why they didn't try that more often (even with Toala coming off the bench) is beyond me. Toala and PU-J looked like they could potentially be a lethal combo. Now even PU-J doesn't get many starts anymore. 🤷🏽♂ The mysteries of Hurricanes' selections ...

Toala has been good for the Bay, this season. I hope he gets another shot at Super Rugby.

@stargazer hes always had a rep as being a bit of a tool through school and appears to have carried that through to the pro ranks. That might have something to do with it. All the talent in the world but not quite the mental fortitude...yet.
