How funny would it be if we won on Sunday, to retain Bled in the greatest of matches and then RC was canned and the AB's were released for the NPC! Happy days!
Even if the RC is cancelled, we’ve still got 2 bleds to go in Oz

who at SAANZAR thought it was a good idea to announce it schedule and all before everyone had confirmed?
This guy. A perfect audition for RA's CEO position.

obviously disappointed SA arn't coming but a pit pissed it seems to have been so miss handled
Wasn't it widely agreed - after NZR claimed it wasn't - that every union involved had been given the schedule with enough lead time, and approved it accordingly?

My recollection is RA were amenable to a five week tournament, but SA and the Argies wanted six. Not that they'd agreed to the dates, let alone had RSVP'd for the party.
-
I thought all four unions had agreed. Saffas had made that agreement conditional. That's why when NZRU wanted to make it five weeks they objected.
The reasons not to come make some sense, even if i do think they are basically just 'shit we'll be underdone and lose Number 1'. Waiting till now to say so is negligent.
NZRU and RA need to put the knives away and secure the future of SR and TRC asap. Getting Japan involved in the TRC is a no fucken brainer.
-
@Derpus The "underdone" argument is stronger for the Pumas than the Springboks, and they are in Oz and want to play. I understand and agree with the player welfare issues, so IMO SANZAAR/RA should now do anything to organise warm-up games for the Pumas against decent teams to reduce their risk.

@Rapido I actually like not seeing the ABs in the NPC. It allows us to watch the next generation of players which is the most exciting thing about the NPC for me. Many of them won't get selected if the ABs are in it.
Given Super Rugby, the NPC does present that opportunity for young players, but there’s something about the ABs playing NPC that lifts the standard and often the other players around them.
Even though my team lost, the best game in my view was the Naki RS game. Good quality, close and ABs impacting the game for both sides.
-
@ACT-Crusader For me, the best game was Hawke's Bay v Canterbury, exactly because there was no ABs presence that would have created an advantage for one team only. It was an awesome contest.

What game? Fake news mate.

having better players is considered an unfair advantage now?

Come on. 210 starters, 322 players in total in each round of the NPC. 31 players in the AB squad.
The next generation, apart from in Canterbury, are going to be playing anyway.
What we don't see, is the next generation match up against All Blacks. and don't get large crowds.
-
@Kiwiwomble Who mentioned the word "unfair"? Not me.
-
@Stargazer "fair" normally mean even for both parties and you said an advantage for one team only
-
@Kiwiwomble It's factual that one team would have had a greater advantage than the other. I didn't connect any value judgment to that; you did.
What I did like was the resulting contest because it was a real, exciting arm wrestle.
-
@Stargazer you said it was the best game because one team didn't have an advantage, best = value
all im saying dont think we can begrudge teams wanting to be able to put out their best players
-
@Stargazer although, sometimes depending where in the season they come back, it can be more disruptive
Think it was 2008 when Northland nabbed a rare win over Auckland 13-21 in the last round of the season, they got a number of ABs including Mealamu, Rok...denying Auckland a chance at the finals in the process (which if we hadnt have taken the penalty kick on full time, they would have)

@Derpus yeah, SA has a pretty comfy safety net in the NH. we need to start playing nice i think
I'm not sure the 6N wants them. Everyone focusses on what SA wants, but only the Pro 14 seems to want them, and they are a very different beast to the 6N.
I do not htink it will end as well as everyone thinks
