@Tim He played some games. @gt12 may be able to answer the question about the Top League season.

That looks like the 4th or 5th best team in NZ. I'm going to settle in for some mid 2000s Chiefs results

holy shit i just realised it is a massive throwback

i have to support Foster as a coach, and the Chiefs are a bit shit.

@Bovidae Any idea how he looked? Would be great if he comes back at full fitness.

McMillan said the Chiefs will start pre-season on January 7, two months before their opening match against the Highlanders at home on March 5.

He looks good in Crusader red.

    The Crusaders didn’t think so.

    Another article about McMillan.

With Matson departing someone needs to take over as defence coach, a very important role, and something that needs to be addressed. Maybe Hill does this along with his other responsibilities.

I'm sorry to see McNicol miss out, but I guess he's had too many injuries over the years and it was too big a risk to signing him again. Really unfortunate, because he has the potential to be a good SR player. Only played 2 games for the Magpies, this year.

That's two more than usual so it is sad that he finally appears to have overcome the injury curse that keeps him sidelinded all season only to miss out.

Can't remember if anyone mentioned this, but Sione Mafileo was still signed with the Blues for 2021, but is now named in the Chiefs squad for 2021.

Would this have anything to do with Nepo Laulala moving to the Blues?

As you may guess, I'm updating my "signings" list.

Chase Tiatia also still had a year to go on his Hurricanes contract.

I'm confused, how do these contracts work? I know, they sign with NZR because of the central contracting, but isn't there also a contractual relationship with the franchise?

Unless the franchise is happy to let them transfer out to make way for someone they rate more highly.

Alaimalo was granted a release from the final year of his Chiefs contract to join the Highlanders. I guess the franchise has to agree to the players request for an early release, and have a suitable replacement.

If a player wants to leave early I can only assume the franchise wouldn't want to keep a player that doesn't want to be there. It looks bad for the the franchise and wouldn't exactly be good for a players mental health.

Seems likely that the Blues are signing Chocobarres, but wondering if there are any rumors about who the Chiefs are chasing for their final squad position? Is it likely to be an outside back/midfeilder?

@Daffy-Jaffy Don't they keep that spot open for Retallick?

@Stargazer Maybe so, I was guessing a backline player because they named one less back than the other teams.

Apart from the Highlanders, the Chiefs also have one less lock compared to the other NZ teams. They will be light on outside backs if Nanai-Seturo is on sevens duty for the most of the season. I don't think they need another midfielder with 4 + Wainui. Lowe as well if required.

Although both those teams also opted for an 8th loose forward, one more than the others. Maybe Brown covering 6/lock. Do we know when is Retallick due back?

@Daffy-Jaffy I mentioned previously that all articles say his NZR contract starts from May next year.

I DON'T want Brown to play lock.
