Thoroughly enjoying watching Poverty Bay play Buller in Westport free on Prime. Buller recovering from the shallacking they got last week to lead 22 - 03 after about half an hour.
As I type that Poverty Bay score a converted try to close it to 22 - 10 five minutes out from halftime.
The shortly after Buller go over for their own converted try and halftime comes with at Buller 29 - 10 Poverty Bay
There is just something magical about Heartland rugby at grassroots venues like Victoria Square.
Looks kike PB might have the wind in the second half.

Followed not long after by one of about five Fijian wingers playing for Buller today scores after a nice kick pass that he expertly caught before diving over in the right hand corner. The conversion misses but the half century is now but two points away.

Ha just caught the final few mins of Poverty Bay v East Coast and the East Coast captain after the game...in the sheds at halftime, one of our supporters bought in a warm box of Steinies and the boys hooked into those and good to get the win.

@taniwharugby I watched the last 20 mins of this game. Terrible conditions in sunny Gisborne. A big derby win for NPEC.

Really enjoying watching Nth Otago play Horowhenua. Didn't know it was on Prime until halftime but since then the Old Golds have run in about thirty points in about 15 minutes with some end to end sweeping movements, but having said that some of the Horowhenua tackling has been a bit less than you would expect from a NZ player. Highlight of the coverage was a nice can skull by what looked like to be a person that must be under consideration as a replacement prop for Nth Otago (no sign of Ralph Darling so far yet by the way) up on the bank enjoying the action with his mates. Not much was spilt but his beard did show some had not quite been drunk!
Anyway it's now Nth Otago 66 - 16 Horowhenua as the onslaught continues 25 minutes still to play.
Oh they have just shown the can skuller again and it looks like one of his mates has challenged, but lost decisively, to him!And as I type that Nth Otago are in yet again
Nth Otago 75 - 16 Horowhenua 22 Minutes left. Looks like a reeeeeeeal long bus trip back home for the visitors! -
And the game finishes in style with a nice break and off load by said spindly lock leading to a converted try in glorious sunshine. Much different to the day when I was there watching HB shiver their way to a win one Sunday wet wintery afternoon about 20 years ago. It was so cold that day the beer was warmer when it was take out of the chiller than it was three minutes later when the icicles were forming in it. Of course the only course of action was to drink it quickly to stop that happening!
Nth Otago 89 - 23 Horowhenua at full time
No sign of NO stalwart Chris Rawson amongst the spectators, hope all is well with him as it is not like him to miss a game.

South Canterbury romped to a 76-9 win over King Country at Pleasant Point, scoring 12 tries without answer with fullback Liuele Simote crossing for three tries and wings Kalavini Leatigaga and No8 Siu Kakala both scoring two tries.
Whanganui faced a tougher contest before beating Thames Valley 25-18 in the second semifinal.
In the Lochore Cup section, Mid Canterbury upset top qualifiers North Otago 31-15 while fourth qualifier Ngāti Porou East Coast headed Horowhenua Kapiti 37-30 with halfback and captain Sam Parkes completing a hat-trick of tries. Wing Louis Northcott completed a hat-trick of tries for Horowhenua Kapiti.
