Liverpool signed two defenders today. Probably neither would have been on the radar in a normal January.
In the past Klopp has worked his new recruits in pretty slowly, as he reckons the need to "learn the system". One assumes he does not have that luxury this time.

When it rains, it pours. Just one of those seasons where injuries cruelly diminish the strength of your squad. Doesn't help that for a period there we couldn't score.

And Liverpool bomb out again at home - no defeat for 2 years and then lose consecutive home games - in fact behind closed doors playing at home doesn't seem an advantage at all given there were 5 away wins out of 5 today. And this season there are more away wins than home wins and Man U, Leicester, Everton, Villa, Leeds and Brighton al have much better away than home records.
Liverpool v City is already shaping up as a decisive game - should City win, they will be 10 ahead of Liverpool with a game in hand and you can almost write Liverpool off as title contenders. A Liverpool win and they close the gap to 4 and it is all one.

Exactly what you'd expect from Mourinho vs Ancelotti!

@KiwiPie What's the sub rule now? I see spurs have made 5 subs. It used to be three.
5 for FA Cup (in 3 batches) as per the rules in the EPL after lockdown. EPL blocked implementing that rule for this season.
Also first concussion sub in the United v West Ham game - Issa Diop. But he was withdrawn at half time after playing on from a head injury 10 minutes or so before. Which makes a mockery of the rule really, the whole point is for players to be assessed immediately and making a sub while it happens.

And Man U doing everything in their power not to make it a title race by drawing at West Brom. They look like an uncoached team, they never seem to have a plan to open teams up. Wait for Bruno to do something brilliant (he did, once) Or just hope that weight of possession gives them a goal. In the second half, Diagne fluffed 2 great chances and Maitland-Niles horribly misplaced a pass to play Diagne in - then again he would probably have fluffed it.
If City wins their game in hand they are 10 ahead with 14 games to go. And 16 ahead of Liverpool who look the only side capable of putting together the sort of winning run required to catch them.

Geez it's a funny league. Fulham have been about 5 goals better and although Brighton didn't win, they tore Villa apart but couldn't get Martinez. They were miles ahead of us.
