@kiwimurph on reflection I think it's a great move. Now teams are competing to get the most useful POC offensive coach they can... And if the find a good one, it's an advantage over the others.
Gets a lot of opportunities out there, now to up to the coaches to show their capability

Maybe, although Bowles is something of a protege for him I suspect and he's moving into a front office role where I suspect he'll have a lot of authority (and the ear of the head coach).
I'm excited to see how Bowles goes with his second chance. I liked him when he was the head coach of the Jets, but he had a couple of major issues. Will be interesting to see if having had some time back in a coordinator role has given him a chance to reflect and improve.

Deebo Samuel wants out
It's not going right in Niner land

@mariner4life what went wrong? They seemed enthusiastic to pay him?

No clues in the ESPN article. The club wants to keep him. The only thing might be that they want to hold off on finalising a deal until closer to the draft, or their offer isn't as much as he expected

I think this is the crux of it.
Some big name receivers got big time deals this offseason (think Tyreek Hill).
The difference is players like Hill have years and years of production and Deebo has one season of production.
I understand where Deebo is coming from - especially the style he plays he wants to get paid elite money whilst he's still in his prime.
49ers are known for very team friendly deals but the flip side is situations like this. Personally i'd take the risk and pay him but 49ers are right to have some skepticism (he showed up out of shape to camp a couple of years back, he's a high risk of injury).
Whilst it's a fairly weak draft - at receiver the draft is strong so it will be interesting.

@KiwiMurph they can fix the situation by showing him the money. But it appears they will do it on their own time and they probably won't be in a hurry to do anything for now
That's true - however they may be too far apart and if 49ers want to get a return that would help them this season then they should trade him before the draft.
Theoretically the 49ers have fairly good leverage in that if Deebo decides to hold out it's going to cost him a lot of money very quickly and he's not on an enormous deal but 49ers may decide they might not want a disgruntled player around when they can get something back for him now when his value is at it's highest.

That was a fun first round. Of course everyone feels good with their picks the day after, but notable picks for we were Travon Walker being number one. His physical traits are incredible but his production doesn't match. There's a good story for that with the role he was asked to play in that incredible Georgia defence not being one for racking up stats but when you could have had Aidan Hutchinson or Kayvon Thibodeux this pick is either going to look inspired or idiotic.
Derek Stingley is another interesting pick. Three years ago he was predicted to be the best player in the country. Injuries have held him back but plenty of guys fizzle out in college after bright starts. Again, the problem with the pick is going 3rd overall when you had other options. Sauce Gardener being the obvious alternative. The knock on Sauce is that he is too handsy and will get whistled out of the league compared with more tolerant dpi rules in college. But again, the Texans risk looking like idiots if Sauce is a probowler and Stingley flames out.
Cole Strange was probably the other surprising pick. The pats have a great record of developing OL players so you'd back them to get it right but he'd probably have been available in the second and maybe even the third. Surely someone like Karlaftis would have given them more value.

Baker Mayfield traded to the Carolina Panthers for a conditional 5th round pick.
Very cheap for the Panthers as Browns are paying part of the salary plus Baker has agreed to take a pay cut.
Crazy to think that the first and third overall picks from the 2018 Draft, both quarterbacks, are now on the same team, a team that neither was drafted to, whilst both are still on their rookie contracts.

The Browns will be paying Baker Mayfield $588K in Week 1 to try and beat the Browns...
