damn it, Koroi to fullback and McKay to the wing maybe?....no, Koroi to 15, Walden to 12 and sio to the wing
-
Before the Ioane injury, it was rumoured they were going to put Hunt at fullback
Maybe stay with that plan and start Gatland at 10?

hunt played well at 10, hoping he's found his groove so would like him to go again
-
He did play well. Gatland has gone ok late in games too
I think the most important thing for the Highlanders right now is picking the least shit fullback
-
McKay is a fullback so surely that would be better than trying to manufacture one (e.g., Gregory).
-

These number are probably accurate..
Highlanders have won 2 of the last 3 at home vs the Crusaders (ignoring the 0-0 cancelled game in 2019)
On current form I think they'd have a ok chance if it was pissing with rain and they hadn't built a roof

thats what i said before the blues game, table topping team, on form...why debut someone, McKay has been in the team for a couple of years so should be less pressure...its weird

Cullen Grace out with a broken thumb. Feel sorry for him but it's excellent news for Ethan Blackadder.

Hahaha you're dreaming!
McKay is shit too. Now that I'm getting used to selection policies, I think we'll probably see Walden to the wing, McKay to 10 and Hunt at fullback.

that's a bit harsh, he hasn't had any shockers and hasn't had more than one or two games in a row, give him a shot, he does well for canterbury
-
@Kiwiwomble he's definitely had some shockers.
-
@Bones agree to disagree

Clearly you're new here. This is not how we do things.
-
@Bones just watching some highlights, there arent loads admittedly but he has a knack of being right on the shoulder when a break of turnover happen and has some wheels

I can't think of a back in the squad that I wouldn't rather see on the wing. Anyone could do at least as good a job.
Even Hunt.
-
I feel sorry for Gilbert who did better than expected on the right wing : not bad against the Chiefs and very good against the Blues before his injury.

Well weirdly it is my personal opinion....
I really don't see what he offers. He's supposed to have pace yet I've never seen that displayed to a wow extent. Breaks tackles? Maybe as many as Parsons if he's lucky. Elusive? The amount of times I've seen him going backwards attached to someone else would say no. Powerful? See previous sentence.
Just no.

I don't understand why they have named both Gatland and Koroi on the bench. Don't they - more or less - play in the same positions (10/15)?
-
i think its just largely one overs inside backs (gatland) and one outside (Koroi)..we're also a bit threadbare with a few injuries
i had forgotten about collins, he may not win it on his own but he whould be safe under the high ball
-
At this point you really have to wonder if Tei Walden has had a falling out with the coaches.
-
Do Blues fans get 'nam flashbacks from the Highlanders team namings?

you mean collins? i like him, done a good job for otago perviously, at the moment im happy with just a safe pair of hands, we cant all have a barrett at the back
-
@KiwiMurph Yes, or maybe Walden has indicated that he is leaving the Highlanders after this season? His contract expires this year.
If he hasn't, this will certainly be a motivation to go looking for a contract somewhere else. He wouldn't look bad in the Canes midfield, where they need more leadership. Or maybe he'll be looking to earn some yen.
-
@Kiwiwomble Safe pair of hands? Collins is known for being notoriously shit under the high ball.

there you go, safe pair of hands. Excellent communicator.

He's probably fine at the lower levels. Was a complete failure at Super level. One of the worst selections from Tana.

as i say, beggers cant be choosers, i would prefer McKay or Koroi but as @Bones has said others think Mckay is even worse and Koroi is still new to the level and got a card in his only game, so i will settle for someone with 60+ NPC caps and 30+ super caps and just hope for a solid game
I'll admit im a bit bias, i respect he reportedly turned down NRL offers and offers to move north to play for otago

Well watching that poor northland lad dropping those high balls against us, or making weird defensive decisions, you at least would keep consistant with that part of the game plan if you selected him.
As a bonus you'll get lack of pace from the back with excellent communication.
-
@Kirwan i get it, you dont like him, you've made that clear
Ive seen him play well so i kind of feel im allowed to not be quite so jaded about it

That's fine, I've seen him play too. Just arguing with your comments about him (on a discussion forum).
He single handedly lost us games, so will always have a special place in Blues fans hearts.
