North vs South

Even he is a poach from Marlborough. Nelson Bays just can't help themselves.
Got say we are quite pleased with that "purchase" up here though. Just quietly.

He must have done a good job.
Even @rotated has stopped banging on about his preference for Coventry!

@Machpants BB isn't the one and only 10. They've just hidden Mitch Hunt in the list of the outside backs.
Foxy about 2.50 in.
Talks about selections, including back up 10. First name mentioned wasn't Hunt.
Sorry. Seems that link didn't pick up the time.
Was 19:30 on Tuesday.
-
Fox on Akira Ioane: "His form has been outstanding." "The areas he's needed to improve he has improved, but he could improve further, as all players can.".
-
School would suck for guys that changed island to go to secondary boarding school. Did Frizzel even go to school here? Sotutu would still have to cut his ties with Fiji.

When I listed a NI and SI team based on 1st XV school Tokolahi was the only player that moved islands, and he isn't in either squad anyway.

@ACT-Crusader North missing half their squad from training until Weds, including the one and only 10!
Mitch Hunt and DMac in the squad.

Sweet. I would find it harder to get behind, mainly because I couldn't give a shit about secondary school.
-
-
@Bovidae Goodhue went to MAGs and in SI team.
-
@taniwharugby I think he means moving Islands to go to another school.
-
@taniwharugby Yeah, there are plenty of examples of that, and vice versa. But there aren't many who move schools from NI to SI, or SI to NI. Mils is a recent example.
-
@Bovidae @Stargazer ah my bad, only read a few posts and missed that bit
-
My 2c regarding school as the qualifier.
I really REALLY hate this recent concentration on school rugby. And it's really recent.
They're kids. Should be allowed to stay kids. And not be fluffed to become Instagram superstars.
Teenagers do not need any more smoke blown up their arse.
Any initiative that adds to the artificial PR machine that is schools rugby should be bombed from orbit.
Schools rugby should be bombed from orbit.
-
And I forgot to mention how bullshit it is that Old Boys, Boards and Principals are trying to buy favour by artificially displaying how good their 1st XV is on national tele.
It's unethical and quite distasteful.
-
But on a positive note: I love the North v South concept.

What are the chances of Auckland dropping from Level 3 straight to Level 1? Or at least only having Level 2 last a week?
Even a pushed back date of Sept 5 would be pushing it for crowds to be allowed at the game. Why not just move it back the week and play it in Wellington where there is less chance of an empty stadium?

Now when you lead him to water he drinks it ?
-
Bugger, I'll be missing that now. Looks like how to cancel your tickets will be announced on Monday
-
@KiwiMurph Postponing is the right decision, but with or without a crowd this game must go ahead now.

No idea what you're referring to re IG?!
-
@KiwiMurph If they want to travel this week, they'll have to apply for an exemption again. A request that is likely to be refused again IMO. Travel is possible from Monday 31st when Auckland goes to Level 2, but - at best - it will be to prepare for a game behind closed doors. As an ABs trial and for tv viewers that will still be worth it, but as a money maker for NZR it's not.
-
@Stargazer Yep - I find it poor that option (travelling Monday) wasn't talked about in the article.
-
We find out the fate of this game sometime today.
I would postpone until nearer the start of the international season, on the assumption the BC and RC takes place. I can understand that NZR wants the ABs to be involved in the M10 Cup, but they were only going to be available for the early stages of the competition so nothing really changes. The provincial coaches will know in advance which players they lose for the NI vs SI game and can plan accordingly. Having this fixture in late Sep/early Oct also provides better preparation for the ABs leading into the proposed game against Moana Pacific.
-
@Bovidae Postponing this game would also allow them to consider the selection of players returning from injury (via Mitre 10) Cup for the ABs. I don't mean players who are reasonably certain of selection anyway (for example, the likes of Scott Barrett if he was close to returning); I mean players who would normally be close to ABs selection if their injury hadn't happened. For example, Luke Jacobson, David Havili and Tom Robinson, and maybe Cullen Grace.
-
Postponing would cause some other issues.
AB's play a limited part in the NPC. Who are the AB's? The players selected after the North v South match
It would mean naming an AB training squad now and maybe adjusting it later.
Just play it ASAP
-
Foster said that they have pencilled in an AB squad already, and it was easier to select than the NI and SI squads. Therefore I don't think the NI-SI game will play a large part in AB selection, unless a player on the fringe has a blinder. It's a money-making exercise.
-

Yes, I heard him saying that. It's an argument for cancelling the game
It's less of a money earner if an AB squad has already being named. The interest is around the AB squad being named the day after the match. Even if that was just the appearance you've sucked half the interest out of the match

I understand the idea is ABs will play first 3 rounds or so of M10 Cup.
ABs are pencilled in to play a Pacific side on 3 October (which is round 4 M10 Cup).
So i'm not sure you can delay the North/South because i'm not sure where it fits.
-
@KiwiMurph It all depends on when and where the BC games are going to be played. The Oct 3 game against Moana Pacific would be based on the first 2 games being in NZ (Oct 10 and 17) because otherwise the ABs will have to quarantine in Aust prior to playing the Wallabies, so that game wouldn't be possible on that date. Everything would be fluid at this point in time until the RC dates are confirmed.

I was reading about the search for that trophy in the SST. They thought that NZR had it, but nope.
-
love this kind of stuff, adds...i don't know what to call it...adds something to these trophies
if they're going to use it against this year i wonder if they'll add all the other missing years too it
just reading, the last game it was used, the draw was in wellington, surprised its wasn't down there somewhere
