North vs South

@Canes4life Basically the same criteria they use for State of Origin then.
-
silly criteria to be a real island of origin kind of deal
but probably the best was to even the odds because canterbury and otago draw some talent for rugby and university retrospectively, evens out the much larger population base of the north
-
βWe think the best legacy thing for us to do is to pick players on the first province they played for because the choice they made when they played first class rugby for that province was probably the start of their move into the professional game. So we think thatβs the best criteria,β Foster said.
I suppose that means after leaving school.

Sam Whitelock made a good point in an interview the other day. He said he was excited to play for the North because it allowed him to play with guys he rarely had a chance to play with. This criteria will stop that happening which is a shame.

That's why I thought your high school would be the best criteria as it mixes up the teams more. I'll have a word to Foster.

High School or current province would've better. First province sucks. Scott and Jordie Barrett like mentioned above, Brad Weber who played few games for Otago then moved. Shit criteria really.
Weber still does the Dunedin RFC Fin when he scores, Dunners is still important to him, i think he'll be ok

As long as he gets to wear a black and white t shirt under his whatever coloured South Island jersey he'll be fine.

@Kiwiwomble only coz he was a gross Castle Street breather
-
@Kiwiwomble Only the club, not the province though

of course...Dunedin's not a province, he was a big deal in club rugby for a few years, robbed he didn't get more games for otago, loved seeing him tear it up for the sharks though

speaking from experience, a lot of the best Otago rugby players come from Hawke's Bay
