Canberra crowds have been limited to 1500. They’ll be raised to 3k for this Friday’s match against the Force.Jeez that makes those viewer numbers look even worse.
Only 45k people could be bothered watching two of the top teams at the ground and at home combined! It's SR, there's plenty of people still playing and attending club games on the weekend.
Based on nothing at all I expect the figures would be better if it had a FTA element. But then there'd be less money in the game.
I guess it also doesn’t take into account the fact that multiple people could be watching a single TV so would likely be way off that number.
I definitely agree with your FTA point. I think it would make a huge difference having super rugby on FTA in Aust. Most other sports have regular games on over the weekend.
There's about a 30% bump of people watch via streaming (equivalent of skygo) which those viewing numbers don't include
-
its also a lot more common to go to the pub to watch sport in aus than i ever experienced at home, no idea how you track those people
-
i didn't actually realise Kayo was Foxtels, i just use the foxtel Go App, whats the difference?

It is already more than that. Big box pay tv (i.e. Foxtel) is not long for this world as a significant player. They've had to cannibalise their old business model to even stay in the game.
Subsequently for Rugby Australia—already at a low point—any near-term domestic tv deal for next year will be going south, not north.
That means (a) stripping out costs; and (b) looking to alternate funding sources. In terms of the latter, private equity will need to be part of that.
Surprisingly, given rugby is such a second-rate sport in Aus, there are actually interested parties with money out there.

Because it has potential with appropriate management and a little investment.

@Rapido the Kings struggling financially
They’re getting booted out, replaced by the Super teams.

@Tim that jersey is a good enough reason not to miss the South African teams.
Are you one of these Zac Snyder dark DCEU fluffers?
Again, in English? 😝

I'm not criticizing SA for moving into Pro 14 or whatever number it is. It is the logical move if can't go solo.
But, I don't envy them.
Conferences, inter-hemisphere , plenty of the problems Super Rugby had - except for timezones.
Yep. Throw in expansion, diluting the product and you have the "Average 18" all over again. At least this time the expansion teams are from a different country, but that didn't really go well for the Sunwolves. They could ditch a couple of weaker teams too, but again that wasn't very popular with some.
