A full strength NPC?

@Nepia Eh, you don't know the names of our players?
We only have 2 ABs, so not much changing from last year.
I do, but you're usually on top of this stuff ... you know, Bucky might have returned from Japan, Hika returned from 3rd division Romanian rugby etc.
@Chris-B You're going to have to rely on homegrown players to replace those players - Covid is like an NPC salary cap on you guys. :face_with_stuck-out_tongue_winking_eye:

How good will it be if, when the figures come out later this year, Ta$man were the champions AND spent less than Shield Snorters doing it!

Possible Shield Snorters line-up for 2020.
Assumptions: Retallick and Weber available; Dixon staying for another season; May and O'Connor (based on him having an out-clause and being injured for most of the early SR season) retiring; the rumour about Taumalolo signing being correct.
1 Sona Taumalolo
2 Ash Dixon
3 Pourie Rakete-Stones
4 Brodie Retallick
5 Michael Allardice*
6 Devan Flanders
7 Gareth Evans
8 Marino Mikaele-Tu'u
9 Brad Weber
10 Lincoln McClutchie
11 Sam McNicol
12 Danny Toala
13 Jonah Lowe
14 Caleb Makene
15 Tiaan Falcon16 Kianu Kereru-Symes
17 Jason Long
18 Joel Hintz
19 Isaia Walker-Leawere
20 Josh Kaifa
21 Folau Fakatava
22 Neria Fomai
23 Mason Emerson*I rate IWL higher than Allardice, but I'd start Allardice because he and Retallick are an experienced combo.

I'm sure you could spend less than us when the players are on minimum NPC contracts but fat Crusaders ones.
@Bovidae You're a bad bad bad bad man, luckily we have two awesome 9s at the moment, hell, I'd even take Ruru off the Blues/Akl, to keep their fans happy, over Eaton.

Can't we find someone to replace Hintz? Buckman wont be back from overseas?
Good loosie trio, even if there are three number 8s!
I think Allardice is a better lock than IWL currently so think you've made the correct decision and IWL's impact for the bench will be awesome.

@Nepia Hmmm, a prop better than Hintz? Josiah Tavita-Metcalfe and Patrick Teddy are obviously in our academy, but I'm not sure they're ready. I was hoping for them to have a good club rugby season this year, so they could compete with Hintz for a spot, but now that the club season will be shorter, I'm not so sure. I seriously hope that they didn't sign Namatahi Waa for 2020, because he just isn't good enough.
I'm not sure Bucky will make himself available and is still good enough to justify blocking the pathway of one of the younger players. Maybe instead of Fomai on the bench?

I was working on the presumption that we're assembling the best team that would land back due to Corona, so if Bucky's back he's in the team and starts, pushing Jonah to the wing.

And, no doubt, the Crusaders have loads of money to throw at their squaddies, because all their ABs are on minimum Super contracts, but big fat All Black ones!
Steve Tew is a genius!

@Chris All hypothetical.
OK, a blast from the past - North Island vs South Island.
The qualifier is which school you went to (some went to more than one school), not where you were born or the province you now play for. All players fit and available for selection

-
For the NI team I would have G Evans instead of Papalii & Cruden instead of Black on the bench. Based on form I would have Tyrel Lomax in there aswell.
-
@Canes4life I thought about Lomax and it looks like he may have spent time at school in Welly. He could replace Ta'avao if eligible.
-
@Stargazer said in A full strength NPC?:
@Nepia In that case, I'd have to drop Mason Emerson, who would lose his spot on the bench to Makene (because we need a midfielder on the bench - Fomai in this scenario - and Makene is better and more versatile than Emerson).
I have no issue with that Emerson hasn't ever lived to the hype for me and the year before last Buckley looked way better.
I wonder if Renton would return to the Bay given the amount of loosies like Prinseep in the Canterbury region?
