STAC have really gone off the boil. After being 9/9 and having beaten St Bedes and CBHS, they've now lost to Goon HS and Jocks in consecutive weeks. But it's possibly worse than that. A Dad who has a son in the side and knows plenty about the game, reckons they've been getting incrementally worse for weeks now.
St Bedes draw with Marlborough which probably means we can't make the top 4, which is likeky to be STAC, Goon, College and a charging CBHS, who'll probably take it out.

i cant argue...but as someone who hasnt lived in dunners for 18 years...i like being able to watch OBHS, sat down and watched them beat Kings last weekend

@Kiwiwomble Same. I love watching 1st XV rugby.
I'm also not convinced that broadcasting the games in itself is the problem. If games aren't broadcast or streamed, scouts will still go to games and pick the talent that they want to sign straight out of school. Similarly, the media will still go to games, and write and hype up certain players.

ive said before my enthusiasm is inversely proportional to the rugby pyramid
i'd rather OBHS won the top four or Dunedin RFC won the club comp rather than Otago won the NPC...but i'd rather Otago won the NPC than the Landers won the super comp....but i'd rather the Landers won the super comp than the AB's won another RC (RWC and Bledisloes are different)
I assume its connected with how much you actually played or were connected with a team, actually playing for OBHS/Dunedin v. knowing personally people who played for otago v. just supporting the Landers / AB's

Rd 4 of the Super 8 (delayed by Covid-19) will be played next Sat.
Hamilton BHS beat Gisborne BHS 80-5 so will finish as the top qualifier.
The Hamilton BHS 2nd XV did even better winning 103-5.
I don't think either result is good for schoolboy rugby.
I think it's a sign of the comp, probably has always been that way. The smaller teams like Gisborne and Hastings are going to take a few shellackings in their down years while Hamilton is basically the Crusaders and 80s era Auckland team rolled into one.
Hastings Boys put a hundy on Tauranga Boys back in the Hika era I think, so hopefully it doesn't do permanent damage to the comp.

Well, Goon HS ran CBHS close but dipped out, and STAC managed to fend off the Syrups in the battle of the Range Rovers vs the ML350s. Friendly results see St Bedes back on the fringe of the top 4 and they have a pretty easy run home. But CBHS and STAC have a significant break on the balance now and are certainty the teams to beat.

@Magic65 From an earlier article on Stuff.
NZSSC eligibility regulations are not defined by year level (or returning) in school sport, they are defined by age. Most 1st XV competitions require students to be under 18 on January 1 in the year of competition. However, some have the ability to exercise special dispensations for "a small number" of under 19-year-old players, Carnachan said. And those dispensations are exactly what several Auckland school boys will be seeking if they do not get to showcase what they can do in year 13.
The likes of Highlanders lock Pari Pari Parkinson and NZ Sevens star Rocky Khan both repeated year 13 and played 1st XV again, before going on to play professionally.
