@Stargazer Is was a drizzly sort of start to the game which was played 12 aside. The drizzle had thankfully gone by half time but it certainly had a big effect with numerous spilled passes in what was a fairly physical, but penalty dominated, sort of game. Each team had long periods of continuous possession but you always had the impression the the visiting St. Marys were the better side, if not by all that much. They had a slightly more confrontational pack with the loosehead prop and number 8 to the fore there. The final score was something like St. Marys 22 - 19 Wainuiomata 4 tries to 3. To say this was a vintage St. Marys performance would be the understatement of the year. They are miles away from the side that won the NZ Schoolgirls title in 2018 but this was their first hitout against a team that actually offered much of a challenge so would be a good wakeup call for them. Still remains to be seen what the standard of the other decent teams like Manukura and Fielding Ag are. Until then no real comparison of the hopes of Hurricanes Region schoolgirls teams chances of success can't really be made with any sort of certainty.

Televised games this week:
Thursday 20th at 11:30am - Hamilton Boys v Tauranga Boys - LIVE on Sky Sport NZ and PRIME.
Hamilton BHS won 37-0.
Speaking to one of the Sky guys the OBU trucks had to drive up from Wellington while staff came from Welly, Hawke's Bay and even Chch.
Angus Ta'avao was the co-commentator so he can't be in the Auckland bubble.

@Bovidae Yep, and to a charging Goon HS side. They're doing what Burnside and to a lesser extent Aranui HS threatened to do in years gone by and really shaking things up amongst the traditional, largely boy's only schools. If there is a national co-ed tourney this year, they'll clean up.

The CNI semi-finalists will only be decided after the final round this coming Sat.
In the North, the winner of the St Peter's vs Wesley game should join St Paul's, assuming they beat the winless FDMC away.
In the South, the winner of Whanganui Collegiate vs Feilding High School will finish 1st and the loser 2nd. All playoff games are to be played in Taupo.

STAC have really gone off the boil. After being 9/9 and having beaten St Bedes and CBHS, they've now lost to Goon HS and Jocks in consecutive weeks. But it's possibly worse than that. A Dad who has a son in the side and knows plenty about the game, reckons they've been getting incrementally worse for weeks now.
St Bedes draw with Marlborough which probably means we can't make the top 4, which is likeky to be STAC, Goon, College and a charging CBHS, who'll probably take it out.
