@sparky Georgia I reckon would be a hell of a lot more competitive especially at home..have Italy ever won an away game..?
Beat Scotland at Murrayfield in 2007 and 2015.

USA or Japan or South Africa joining the Six Nations instead of Italy would involve a lot of air miles, but might make more commercial sense. The game has failed to kick on in Italy in the last decade.

Which BBC executive decided to let Mad Bastard Krusty in the commentary box?
Perhaps they wanted a bit more variety than Davies' interminable, repetitive "space out wide....gone now" and "why would he do that?"

The last time these two teams met each other, Italy won easily. Georgia is no better than Italy. Japan could be the most interesting choice but the calendar could be a major problem because of the time difference.

6 Nations needs to add possibility to relegation down to European Nations Cup to make things more interesting.
Scotland and Italy were the most vocal in disagreeing with promotion-relegation in WR's Nations Championship due to self-interest.
-
@Steven-Harris The problem is that the only solution is reducing the 6 Nations to a 5 Nations. Georgia isn't good enough to replace Italy in the 6 Nations.
See the link below for the most recent test results of Georgia (incl the RWC):

See my previous response. Georgia wouldn't be more competitive.

An easy win but Pivac and Haywood (defence) will be very happy keeping Italy scoreless.
Best I've seen of Halfpenny since Lions in Australia.
Tompkins reminded me of Tim Horan. Straight, fast running with ball in both hands.
Still not convinced with North at centre (13).
Start Tompkins next match with Parkes.
Backrow well balanced.
Solid start from Wales.

@MiketheSnow Yeah nice training run for them, really, get some rust blown. Onto more serious opposition now - it will put them in gfood stead to have that under the belt

@cgrant same 2 countries who don’t want change with Pacific Island player eligibility..Funny that, we can be crap for the next 20 years at RWC’s or 6 Nations ,but we ain’t changing for no bugger ..A real sense of entitlement from a couple of countries who don’t give a rats arse about the bigger picture ..!
-
@Stargazer but I reckon if you gave Georgia more consistent big rugby against the other 5, they will gradually improve .
The biggest disappointment for me regarding the Italians is they have no game, or strength , or even one trick they are half decent af.
if you look at Argentina , we all new prior to joining the rugby championship they would always a strong set piece pack and where always a handful at home..not to mention they have always had the odd few world class players coming through ..And they showed since joining the rugby championship, they are playing a more expansive game..
As for the Italians , I have seen no improvement, and can’t see any in the near future ..!

Improvement could come from their youngsters : Italy U20 beat wales 17 - 7 and their 2019 U20 side was good too.
Welsh kid was instrumental in the Italian win

This was the argument for including Italy.
The best team outside the top 5 in my lifetime was undoubtedly Romania. Limited game but they were a real handful at home in the 70's and early 80's. Regularly won against France. The fall of communism and then rise of professionalism fucked them though.
I reckon the fish heads will be comfortable with Italy. Plenty of sponsorship and corporate hospo opportunities. Rome's lovely in the spring dontchaknow. Who gives a fuck about the quality of the rugby.....
