Pay to not see ads

How about something like a limit on the number of posts you can make a day unless you are a subscriber?
- The Fern would still be free to read.
- Irregular users could still post up to two posts a day for free on the Sports Forum
- Post more often than that or on the Off Topic Forum or the Politics Forum you'd have to pay $2 a month or $20 a year.
Assuming costs are kept as low as now, then that would probably remove the need for ads.

Yeah, we had it in the old software. With the changes Duluth has been making we have more options again on how to handle that.
To be honest, I'd like some ideas from people because the google ad reviews are getting painful.
We could chuck up a Patreon and people that donate/subscribe there can be added to a group that no longer sees adds?
As we have low costs, it wouldn't take much to cover those entirely and just remove the ads altogether. And if we go over we can put that into better hardware/memory to improve performance or add features.
What are people's thoughts?

- If I pay extra can you give @jegga a really disappointing avatar and remove his ability to edit it. Or maybe change his username to GFYs
But seriously, it's a great idea. And we should also have t shirts again.
Still working out if we want to do this or not, also interested in hearing from people who think it's a bad idea and why they think that.
T-shirts is a blast from the past, I think Bart's old business used to make those? Getting old, can't remember. "Bring Back the Biff"
Think I still have a TSG "Dingo stole my world cup" one somewhere!
I'm in for a $ contribution to kill the ads.

Yes, will make sure thats enabled. That's the sort of thing I'm confirming in a few hours.

Wouldn’t charging to post on the Politics board be a clampdown on free speech?

Nope.
Maybe posters could make their side bets result in a donation e.g. loser donates 20. Would be better than eating hats or Beiber a vat

More seriously, I'm totally keen to contribute so we can free the fern. Count me in for a t-shirt run if that goes ahead. How about a wordle of our top tier cuss words?
Hmm suspect it'd have @jegga in the middle in the biggest font! Followed by cuttlefish, fluffy bunny, and something something piston.
