Havelock beat MAC 30-27, after leading 15-14 at halftime.
Win was probably deserved as Havelock scored four tries to three, also had more ball and territory. MAC's good defence kept Havelock out.
MAC had the wind and rain behind them in the second half and led 20-15 early in the second half with two penalty goals but Havelock came back with two tries for 30-20 lead.
MAC scored their third try with three minutes left to close to 30-27 and in the final minute MAC was awarded a penalty in the Havelock 22. They kicked for touch, won the lineout, but then someone threw a forward pass and that ended the game.
Devan Flanders played the whole game for Havelock as did Shannan Chase who scored their first try. Latrell Smiler-Ah Kiong had a good game at fullback, caught everything kicked to him and wasn't afraid to run at the opposition. A shame Havelock aren't playing him at first-five, they played Trinity Spooner there who also did the goalkicking.
Lincoln McClutchie played okay for MAC, was 100% with his goalkicking.

@Number-10 Thanks for that write-up!
If you read the article on Hawke's Bay App, of which I posted the link in my previous post, it may not be coincidence that he plays fullback:
Former Hawke's Bay Sevens rep Ah Kiong [Latrell's dad], 43, who played everywhere in the backline during his premier career, agreed fullback was the berth his son should be chasing for the Magpies but he could also cope in the pivot role.
Maybe he's playing fullback for the Village, because he hopes to play there for the Magpies one day?

Results premiers:
Clive v Central HB: 15 - 12
Taradale v Tamatea: 60 - 0
NOBM v Hastings R&S: 18 - 17
Havelock North v MAC: 30 - 27
Napier Tech v Napier Pirate: 29 - 26Lost any real motivating interest once Pirates got off nil. The unbeaten Texans still top of the table.

I was impressed with his play at first-five last year for Hastings Boys and would like to see him in that position at a higher level.

Hastings defeated Pirates 44-5, eight tries to one says it all.
Mason Emerson played centre for Hastings. Connor McLeod, varied his play well at halfback, made three or four good runs, did some good tactical kicking and passed well. His only drawback was his goalkicking. He converted the first two tries but then missed the next five, including one from straight in front of the posts which hit the left upright and rebounded back. Another kicker missed the last conversion.
Pouri Rakete-Stones played the whole game for Pirates and carried the ball up numerous times.
A mate of mine watched the Tamatea v Havelock match which Havelock won easily 73-20. He texted me that Tony Lamborn came on for the second half for Havelock and scored a try.

Central HB had a guy called Brodie Retallick turn out for them on Saturday!

@Number-10 Doesn't the article say he was in the crowd, not playing?

Interesting to read in that article that both young school leavers Frank Lochore (Napier Boys) and Emil Crichton are used as flankers, while they were playing lock for their schools. Frank Lochore is a bit small for a lock, so it may be the right decision. Don't know how tall Crichton is.
Also good to read that Caleb Makene can play at first five, although looking at the number of tries and only few conversions, kicking at goal might not be his strength there.
Also good to see that Jonah Lowe is still playing and not injured, and that Lincoln McClutchie was on target with 3 out of 4 conversions and 2 penalties.

Had to watch the Havelock Nth v Taradale game at Anderson Park, top of the table clash between the only unbeaten teams.
Taradale won comfortably 51-22, seven tries to four - Havelock's final try was scored by Shannan Chase in the final minute.
Taradale had the bigger forward pack and a bigger backline too. Namatahi Waa was loosehead, Joe Apikotoa was tighthead, Josh Eden-Whaitiri started at lock and finished blindside flanker. Caleb Makene was first-five and Ollie Sapsford was second-five. Sapsford looks like he has bulked up a bit to me and wasn't afraid to crash the ball up, he got through a couple of times.
Taradale forward pack was too good, scored one try with a rolling maul that went 20 metres from a lineout to the tryline, and another from a 5m scrum pushover.
Latrell Smiler-Ah Kiong played first five for Havelock and had a mixed game. Made one break to set up Havelock's first try but threw a couple of long cutout passes that went forward.
