Well done to Texan Colts winning the comp. Little side story and some other Tech supporters might remember this.
Think is was 2003 Final (may have been 2004). Those two years I would play the first round of colts before high school footy started. Finals happened to be in the school holidays I played the semi then was on the bench for the final. Was vs CHB and is 100% the worst ref performance in a game I have been involved with.
We were up by a try or so after scoring against the run of play and the score board clock had ticked to 35mins (colts only played 35 min halves then). Ref had said it was 1 minute to go before we scored. Then after the kickoff he said 10 minutes to go. The scoreboard clock stops at 45 minutes and had stopped. There were no injuries so no injury time.
Captain asked how long to go before the kickoff. The ref said 10 minutes. Everyone was like WTF thought the try would have been full time.
CHB get 2-3 outrageous penalties following the kickoff they eventually score and get the win. The CHB captain even said in his aftermatch speech in the clubrooms that 'I swear we didn't pay the ref off'. I would say our teams most spoken language was Samoan and a few of them weren't too good with their temper so wasn't a nice ending to the final (nothing broke out).I would love to remember which year it was as in 2004 one of the boys knocked the ref out mid season, got banned for life and went on the run from the cops for the rest of the week.

Good recall @Magpie_in_aus
19 July 2003 - Central 25 Tech OB 22
It was claimed that the referee played an extra 14 minutes. Tech OB sent in a complaint to HBRU but the complaint was dismissed on the basis that the referee was the sole judge of time.

1 May, 2004 Tech Colts v Taradale Colts
LM punched the referee to the ground. His brother G was cited after the game for punching a player in the same game and got a four-week suspension.
The game was called off early when the referee was punched, with Taradale leading 22-5 and the result stood.

@Number-10 yeah I remember it was the first game I didn't play because school started back. My mate rung me and told me that night.
George got punched ref didn't see that only saw him punch the Taradale player then sent him off. His brother (who I think might of become a minister at the church) saw red and turned and knocked the ref out.
Was just wondering if it was the 2003 or 2004 final (and wondering if the ref decided tech wasn't winning that year)...I'm off to create a youtube conspiracy series.
Side note just messaging one of my mates from that team about that final...just ruined his night.

Nope just remembered who became a minister wasn't him

Pat Ryan Memorial Trophy Colts Final: Hastings RSC 18 - 24 Napier Tech Old Boys.
An excellent result to certainly boost me up after some pretty average losses to my outfit down here in Wgtn over the last few weeks. Can always rely on the Texans to cheer me up somewhere along the line. Still the reigning NZ Club One Day Cricket Champions by the way (not our fault Covid19 caused the tournament to be canned last season!)
By the way we also tipped HRSC over 39 - 19 in the Womens Final a couple of weeks back too. Surprised Stargazer has not provided a full description of the happenings ion that match! -
In lieu of their not being a section devoted to Club Cricket I will post this here , mainly for the information of @Stockcar86 who might probably have overlooked the start of the season and neglected to check out his mob's scoreboard!

Not sure there will be much cricket at Whitmore Park over the next few days. Look at the end of the video on this page for the Tech Lake...

@Stockcar86 Hell that is a real large amount of water. Looks like Nelson Park is free of floodwater, as is McLean Park (the millions spent upgrading the drainage looked like it worked). Whitmore Park seems to needing the super sopper to reduce the remaining floodwater. Guess bowls at the Wairere Club greens at the western end of the park will be out of action for this weekend at least.
Hopefully the Speedway track will not be too badly affected and be ready to go again for the HB Stockcar Champs on the 21st. At least it will not be needed to be watered again for a couple of days! -
Just in case @Stockcar86 was unaware of his team's result from last night I will save him the time involved in having to look it up
A bit closer this time out but it was a 20/20 game so that is not unexpected. I can just imagine the joy when the bails fell from the stumps signifying the third wicket to fall in the chase in pursuit of my guys 180.
