@Chris-B Fuck off! I only threw his name out in desperation
Yeah - that was sort of the purpose of the quiz.
I did actually know he had a great first class average - but, I didn't realise he was quite so high on the pantheon.
Last guy (anyone's likely to get) is a household name - but not in the test format.
-
@Chris-B I have been wracking my brains over this one working my way back through everyone I could think of.
Does he share a middle name with a famous AB?
Harris is the only guy I could think of who made a name in ODI's and had a substantial FC career. He seems the best of the candidates I could think of - most of them McMillan etc also made a reputation of sorts as test players
-
@dogmeat That's him.
Harry made a lot of hay in domestic cricket, but never translated it to tests (a bit like Michael Bevan).
Here's the last guy - who comes in third in the averages - and sounds not unlike Munro - or Jock Edwards...

@Chris-B hmm learned something today.
double international - phenomenal FC batting average - career that lasted 17 years and also bowled and kept wicket. Plus a good Shore boy.
I see he was in both Richard Brittendens 50 big names of NZ cricket and Romanos' a Century of great NZ cricketers
How come I've never heard of him?
-
Here's the table I was working from, giving everyone's averages.
Marty Crowe very dominant at the top.
Kane's somewhat sketchy test form of late has dropped him below Skippy.
And Jesse edges Stewie Dempster by a few hundredths of a run (one less not out and he wouldn't).

This seems to be about as good a place as any to post this. Still hard to accept after all these years that it is no more
