Cricket: NZ vs Aus

some sort of party area where security is a bit more lax and people know what they are going into
Hong Kong sevens south stand. Works well, go in there at your peril.

I was there on Boxing Day and confirm people were getting booted left right and centre for nothing - skulling beers and cup snakes. It was entirely over the top fun police - by the security guards not the police - I saw a guy skull a beer right in front of a cop and the cop just had a quiet word with him and walked away.
Ironically the crowd was bloody well behaved - even in the afternoon after some time in the sun and a few beers - a few mexican waves - nothing unruly at all.

More fuel to the DRS fire.
Tim Paine has has also been added to my dickheads file after I initially liked him.
-
I like that someone is questioning DRS. It brings up some weird decisions all the time and it needs to be called out - giving it some untouchable status is crazy - it deserves criticism.
However on Paine I do find it funny that the 'nice guy' Australia have brought in as captain to help change the culture and change the image of the team is the mouthiest guy in world cricket - his gob is non stop. Straya!

To a point. One of the few "crazy decisions" was when they used the wrong delivery recently - I think in NZ v England, but it got picked up.
Did you see the pre match thing where they showed how ball tracking was done? Worth a watch if it is available on utube.
Definitively use the 1/2 ball thing to allow for inaccuracies but that is still better than an umpire who sees it once, live. No slow mo, no snicko, no hot spot, no ball tracker. I'd give that decision to the 3rd umpire, still an umpire but not the on field one.

So, changes for Sydney?
Boult is obviously out. I'd imagine Matt Henry will come in for him.
I saw Nathan Lyon on TV suggesting that the Australians thought Santner would play in Sydney where the pitch might help him more but to hell with that. Somerville or Astle to come in for Santner.
I'm also wondering whether CdG is expendable given that he's averaged 19 with the bat and 41 with the ball - and whether we play five specialist bowlers, give the workload Wagner and Southee have carried. That would let us play three seamers and two spinners (or even four and one). Weakens the batting a bit, but if the top order fails to fire, I don't think Colin is a great bet to succeed either - not against this attack.

Is the pitch expected to be a traditional SCG spin friendly wicket? Both sides might opt for two spinners.
That might save Santner and puts CDG under threat -

Well and truly in the dickhead file
-
@Duluth Yeah - without doubt.
I like Santner, as well - but mainly in the shorter forms. He just doesn't have enough weaponry to be a test spinner - unless maybe on really spin-friendly pitches.
Which, as you suggest, the selectors may think Sydney is....
Really, they erred by not giving Astle the spinners' spot in Melbourne - we'd have learned a lot more - and Santner might have been more in my frame to play in Sydney.

Santner is the new Guptill.... world class in ODIs but no good in tests.
That said I'd love to have Guppy batting 6 in our current test side btwn Nicholls and Watling. I feel like we're a batsmen short with our wicket keeper batting 6.
Would love to have seen more chances for Guppy in the middle order. Was never equipped to be a test opener.

100%, I think we've said this before on here but he doesn't have an openers game at all - plays with hard hands and likes to go at the wider deliveries. I see a lot of parallels between him and Astle, who was very effective for us at 5/6.

@Snowy South African serving his residency. Made a triple century earlier this year, which has him heading the batting averages in the Plunket Shield.
He's being talked up and has the stats to back that - as long as he doesn't suffer Graeme Hick syndrome.
