That was probably as good as that batting line up is, against that bowling attack.
Quite possibly.
But, Rossco and BJ especially are much better than what they contributed and it was the easiest batting conditions of the series. Another hundred runs and there would be a decent prospect of a draw - and 50 more each from those two wouldn't be too much to ask - along with less soft dismissals from CdG, Wagner and even Henry.
Sure but that's cricket. I used to think Taylor was unfairly maligned before Williamson came along. He used to be our best batsman but the rest of our batsmen were so crap we needed more from him. The problem was that Taylor was never good enough to carry the team himself. He was our best batsman but was not as good as we needed him to be, to be competitive.
Taylor could have got more runs but I don't think his innings was too unusual there. BJ's median score when he bats is around 28. So he can rescue you but you cant rely on it.

50 and out on debut for Phillips.
Good result on paper but sounds like he spent a series worth of luck in one innings
Better to be lucky than good. Got the impression he had a fair amount of luck in that T20 ton he got a couple of months ago.

Not having to see David Warner leaping with that Toyota feeling

Oh yes. That has been a small win.

It's officially a complete disaster now.

@mariner4life I was just gonna say, FFS someone get that munter out so we aren't further traumatised by a display of tiny dick energy.

Back at work, so not watching anymore. How's Astle looking? The commentary is hyping him up, and he should have had Labuschange cheaply, but my view on Astle has always been that he bowls too many pies. He takes genuinely great leg spinners wickets, but he'll give away toomany easy runs in between. If he had better control/consistency he'd be a genuine test quality attacking spinner, and a contender for our best ever spinner.

He has been bowling really well today. Good consistency and some really nice wrong-uns

Warner past 100; Marnus past 50.
Jesus Todd. A chance at getting him very cheaply and a small win and again it's a fuck up.
Enough guys in this team who've played very little test cricket and are playing for their spots that there's no way we should be looking demoralized and sloppy, but that was mentioned on the radio.
-
I love the commentary team and the combo of Border, Smith and O'Keefe yesterday was just fabulous.
O'Keefe is excellent
-
Is that cricket history? Is that the first 5 run penalty in test cricket for running down the pitch?
-
our shit teams htat have come to Aus have shown more fight than this. We've been thoroughly demoralised.
-
Marnus gets himself out slogging and Paine declares. I guess he knew the declaration was imminent, but I suspect when he reflects he'll be slightly pissed at either his choice of shot or the declaration timing - maybe both.
Aussies have basically romped past 200 for one wicket. Almost zero pressure from us.
And now we will see a dogfight for sure.
Pretty limp effort yesterday and today.
-
While I find it hard to disagree with him, I am getting really annoyed by Warney saying 416 is FAR TOO MANY for this New Zealand team.
It's right but it just hurts!!!

All to play for thanks to the sporting declaration from Paine.
I'm picking big hundreds to a couple of our top order and we do it in a canter.
without your boundless, labrador-like enthusiam, this thread would be sooo bleak
oh and fuck up Warner you fluffybunny.
