suspended for 10 matches, and will be sent home

How the fuck is there a world where you pay to watch Wayne fucking Carey pass judgement on anyone for off field behaviour?!
-

Been quite impressed with Collingwood's (that team all racists hate) effort in the last month. They're really putting in but probably lack the pedigree to make points. We need all the guns playing to even contend but the way the squad has played without them has been characterised by guts and never giving up. Today also was all guts ( 2nd half) but poor execution.
Meanwhile Brisbane have all the speed and vigour and must be under pressure to make an appearance at their big do in October.
Given how hot they are at the moment, it would be the funniest thing in the history of mankind if they didn't make it.
No pressure but
-
fucking windy in Cairns today so set your expectations even lower than they already were for Dees v Freo tonight
-
Geelong look the class team at the moment, though that mantle has been held by West Coast, Brisbane, Port Adelaide and Richmond at various points over the last month.
You'd be surprised to see the winner come from outside that group though. I'd back in a Geelong/Richmond final but wouldn't shock me to see West Coast or Brisbane there.

given West Coast look destined for 5th, and will be stuck in Qld where they appear to stink, i think i would be shocked.
Richmond v Geelong looking very likely. Don't they play each other this weekend?
-
@mariner4life West Coast may well struggle in the hub, but their best footy is arguable better than any other team in the competition. That game against Collingwood was scary.
I can see them scrapping their way into a Prelim final, and then all it takes is one good day and they are in the GF. Not sure if they can produce that, but if they do then they are very hard to beat.
-
@barbarian it's a good point, they do have the best potential. I'm just concerned by their level at the moment.
If they get everyone fit and healthy they will be a handful
-
West coast look impressive , have a lot of great players ,
if there is an issue , their game plan relys on perfect execution , chip mark, chip mark , long kick mark , they like to keep the ball off the ground and take a lot of uncontested marks , looks beautiful when its coming off ,
Sometimes under the heat of a high pressure game such as finals, that becomes the most difficult type of gameplan to perfectly execute , and if they do have a weakness its the ball hitting the deck ,
i probably rate geelong ahead of them right now but both are right in it
-
my only thing with Geelong is
I've seen them look good right up until finals before, and then they fall apart
This year looks better though. And Hawkins is almost unplayable.
I actually think the finals will be fucking close, and if someone is ever going to win from the bottom half of the 8, then this is the year for it.

Chris Scott won a premiership in his first year of coaching them , but took over a champion side ,
Since then has 4 wins from 15 finals

Fuckity fuck fuck. Another game lost and the enigma continues. After barely looking like we knew where our forward 50 was through three quarters, we then piled on the pressure in Q4 and almost, almost, looked capable of stealing the win.
I'd love to see a Melbourne's Q4 stats vs the rest of the game.
So now we can't make the 8 on the back of our own results. We might be in the mix for another two weeks yet but it's gonna be a fucking hard watch.
-
We've got GWS on Saturday night so I reckon I'll watch that on the big screen (as opposed to ipad in bed tonight) and annoy the shit out of the wife if we play well with some yelling and stuff.
-
Conditions were miserable. Freo just worked harder for most if the game. Neither side has a functioning forward line.
-
Still good to be at live footy. Next up swans v lions on Sunday

Yeah, Weiderman just isn't as prominent as he needs to be, Fritsch isn't big enough and MacDonald has been dropped. And when we pushed May forward he was there or there abouts but also couldn't take a mark.
-
@shark i like May. He's a unit who runs around and likes to hurt people.
-
Demons are cooked. After a very good performance against the Saints and Petracca looking like a top 5 player in the league, they have slumped to two bad losses and won’t make the 8.

Yep, but didn't have the desired impact when pushed forward. Love him on defence though.

You shuddup.
-
And the Dees live again because there is something completely rotten at GWS. That club just cannot figure it all out. They have talent everywhere, and serious talent, but they just can't get themselves to be a complete package.
They made a GF 12 months ago, and got absolutely flogged. They should be hungry as hell, but they just don't seem to have the drive.

how did i miss this? Two pea-hearted outfits "battling" it out to make the 8.
I'm backing the draw. With a late shot at goal to win it missing.
-
Yeah no idea what's going wrong at GWS. That said Adelaide actually look pretty decent at the moment, a long way from the guaranteed 4 points they were a few months ago.
In other news, Carlton came back from 37 down to beat the Swans late. A fun sort of game, you could make the argument both teams could have won by 20+.
I'm not sure if the Blues are a good team, but they have a knack of staying in games that in previous years they would have lost comfortably. For all the talk of Tom Papley or Zac Williams I think the team is in desperate need of another ball-winner in midfield, to complement Cripps and Walsh.

Blues are definitely better than they have been, so any sort of improvement must be good for their fans.
They are only a couple of kicks away from being in teh 8 if you look at their results
Sydney are definitely showing signs of growth. And you are right, Adelaide have actually played pretty well for the past month.
Bad signs for a few clubs that are going backwards.

Maybe, but on the flipside they are also a few kicks away from being 15th. So many of their games have come down to the wire, and they have won more of those than they have lost.
I don't think they have the class at the moment to be a future contender. Some nice youngsters, but they need another couple of pieces to truly matter.

oh no, i agree, I'm not bullish on them at all. But after years of battling the Suns for teh spoon, i reckon they are entitled to be at least a little bit happy
-
@mariner4life That's fucked. Speaking for the Dees, they're a relatively young side with a couple of holes, trying to build combinations, prone to incredibly inconsistent performances and still scratching around the cusp of the 8. Their biggest issue is one week they can make getting it into their forward 50 look like child's play, and the next it's damn near impossible.
-
Good to see the Lions give the Suns a decent touch up, despite GC getting kissed on the dick by the umpires.
A couple of guys who have been down on form had good runs as well.
Problem was 3 injuries in the first half. Can't afford that shit at the moment, especially with Andrews in the stands until deep in to finals (should be get that far).
I love Fages too. He has the same reactions as me to stuff. I blow up at the TV, he blows up at the field.
-
biggest Home and Away game of the season? Tigers need to win. Geelong need to get another monkey off their back. 1 game each after this until finals.
-
Yeah is a big game , Geelong have the better form and deserve the favoritism , we have troubled them in recent history in big games, but they do appear to have a harder edge about them this year though .
We lose we finish the home and away out of the 4 , ordinary form earlier in the season will come back to bite us on the arse if that is the case .
-
Tough conditions last night. We got killed in the latter part of the 4th qtr by Nic Nat clearance work and Gaff’s work rate.
Us bombing into 50 aimlessly didn’t help either.
-
That was a dominating performance by the Tigers. Now just sweating on the injury reports.
-
So if we beat GWS tonight we do ourselves a massive favour and draw level with them on points, possibly in eighth spot, and then GWS have a tough final game. But it's the Bulldogs who are also a game ahead of us who are the bigger problem as they finish with two games against opponents below them on the ladder. Ultimately we just need to win two games and hope the Dogs drop one or two and it'll come down to percentage.

Terrible game and I fear for the finals
Hard to see the Tigers not marching to the flag now
-
Two very good defensive sides which made it very tight ,
Can Understand the neutrals not enjoying it , but with a team involved I enjoyed the Fierceness of the contest,
I still think the shorter quarters don’t help the fatigue factor playing it’s part in the games breaking open
Soldo a massive loss , he has battled on alone in the ruck all year , nankervous finally makes it back To help him out , then soldo goes down with an acl, cruel blow for him ,
We seem to be inside Geelongs heads
-
Helluva game between the Dees and GWS last night. Probably the best set of goals scored all season including some absolute rippers. JB put it well after a really good goal was scored when he said Baker had two great goals and neither was in the top two for the night. And that was only in Q2.
We're back in the 8 - albeit possibly temporarily - on percentage. Now I'll be barracking hard for other results to go our way.
