The Mighty Ta$man Mako will take on Auckland at Landsdowne Park on Saturday 19 October at 2.05 pm.

The mighty Mako have just completed a 10/10 regular season - the first since Auckland did it in 2007. Both those teams also recorded 48 competition points, but the Mako edge the Orcs with more points for and less against to have the best regular season since Wikipedia records began (2004).

Meanwhile, the current Orc team only managed to beat the woeful Counties among Premiership opposition this season.

If we lose this game it will be a fucking travesty and could set up my worst ever day of rugby watching. Long week and possibly a long fortnight coming up! 😧 😧

I was in Nelson in the days before last year's SF but ended up watching the game in Chch. We passed all the Sky TV OBU trucks on SH65.

Ta$man won't want to be burnt 2 years in a row. I hope they win it as it's good a new team has success.

Auckland should put up a better fight than the 40-0 pants-ing a couple of weeks back but Ta$man should win this fairly comfortably.

Yeah - I'd be cheering for the newbie if it wasn't us - even if it was Hawkes Bay! 🙂

To be fair, last year there was bugger all between us and Canterbury and once Hansen shored up their front row by giving them Moody it was always on the cards we'd get turned over.

@Chris-B I'll (slightly) support the Invitational XV if they're playing Canterbury in the final.

to be honest, if the South Central Vikings and their Super rugby level roster of poaches don't win this comp by the length of the straight, it is a choke job of epic proportions

We're going to get smoked. By 20 points. If we do well.

And if by some miracle we win, I can't see us doing it 2 weeks in a row

Defeatist here, but hoping for a miracle

@nzzp 20 points is only a cigarette sized smoking compared to the cigar sized 40 pointer you got done for last time.

@Higgins yeah, we've got some players back and are in some kind of form.

Mid season slump was horrific for us. Losing 3 on the bounce just terrible. We weren't even competitive.

I assume Ta$man will have Taufua and Squire back in the mix for this game.

I love how we are all setting up Ta$man for a massive choke.

Auckland are quite capable on their day.

    Fixed.

Auckland still have issues at 9 & 10.

Yeah - the semi-finalists are Auckland, Canterbury, Wellington and.... Ta$man. That we're going to be the chokers if we don't win is a sensational achievement in itself! 🙂

Years since teams other than Canterbury or Auckland won the title:

Taranaki 5 (Clean your ears out Tom Marshall!)
    Waikato 13
    Wellington 19
    Otago 21
    Manawatu 39
    Counties 40
    BoP 43

    Others - never.
