Full time: Highlanders 7 - 41 Crusaders
Scorers:
Highlanders - Rob Thompson try; Mitchell Hunt con; YC - James Lentjes
Crusaders - Leicester Fainga'anuku 2x, Will Jordan, Michael Ala'alatoa, Fetuli Paea, Braydon Ennor, Tom Sanders tries; Brett Cameron, Bryn Hall 2x conIt's very hard to say anything about this game due to the bad quality stream. I understand from the commentary that Bryn Hall had a big impact when he came on. Going by what I've seen last week and the little bit today, I expect big things from Leicester Fainga'anuku.

@Stargazer He's a decent enough goalkicker. Was the main goalkicker for St Peter's at schoolboy level and even did a bit for North Harbour in the last year or 2.

Oh dear, will this apply to all All Blacks (at all 5 franchises)? Is this imposed by the ABs coaches/management?
I don't get the whiny-ness of that tweet - it's the opening round and just about every team in the comp will have a player on restricted minutes for some reason or another. Plus it happens pretty much every year. Plus NZR pays the bills for those players.
Sumo, as much as I enjoy his commentary, is very much in the anti-NZR, anything they as the establishment do is wrong school of thought.
I suspect it may have a bit to do with his employment in an organisation that does not have the broadcast rights.

It's a fair complaint. I think it's a major reason super rugby has lost a lot of interest. Does not seem valued very much. Too much focus on international rugby.
-
I think "super" rugby lost impetus because it wasn't really super due to there being too many teams which diluted the player pool and we ended up watching some pretty ordinary guys throw a ball around and most likely drop it.
Then there was the whole competition structure...which IMO is fckd. To misquote George, "one more year" but this time it is good.

@Machpants TBH I've not noticed the anti NZR stuff (haven't checked my Twitter account in forever) but maybe this has become more prevalent since jumping from Sky?
As to the issue of resting players, well, no easy answer is there.
Play them all the time they burn out get injured, dont play them it impacts super rugby and you could argue potentially form and combos at international.

It certainly seems that way from my observations

The expanded competition and the conference system has done more to damage the product than anything else. The original brilliant S12 was an NFL type season where every game mattered
