Anyway, I think he can have a great contribution to the development of young players and refs (he was already involved in coaching the BOP U19 team), just like Chris Pollock has been doing since his retirement (to name another recently retired ref).

@Bones I disagree. Everyone on here bags him and rightly so. He's bias towards hometown teams and has been for years, there's a reason he never got a world cup gig.
Got some stats some that? Like percentage off home town wins much greater then averaged? Cos I think it's mostly internet reinforced bollocks

Define everyone? And I see, the RWC is the benchmark then - so Mark Lawrence was a shit ref too? Also, what @Machpants said.

Not so sure about that.

Sorry, bugbear of mine: "biased", or shows bias.

"Everyone" is an exaggeration, but I agree that a lot of Ferners have - for years - been criticizing Glen Jackson for bias towards the home team, because the 50/50 decisions more often favoured/seemed to favour the home team than the away team if he had the whistle.* Whether the criticism was justified is another matter, but he got his nickname "hometown" for a reason.
Some people appear to have memory problems?
*Don't think that's reason to celebrate his retirement, because there are refs who are significantly worse than he is.

@Bones how So?
Because he's a decent kiwi ref and not exactly getting on. Think he could have continued on for a few more years and only got better.
Why is it a good thing?
With you on this. Experience is important in pressure situations and how people react. So "hometown" he may have been, but as time goes on and confidence builds the external pressures from the crowd, job security, etc, diminish and he becomes a better ref. Wayne Barnes (who I still can't forgive) also got better.

@Stargazer Not televised I guess?
-
@Machpants Nothing in the tv guides, yet. They usually don't, so not holding my breath. I'm also keeping an eye on possible livestreams (the Aussies are better at that than Kiwi teams, so I'm a little bit hopeful for the Tahs v Landers game).

-
@Tim well it would be nice to have a player like that at the Chiefs - instead of some of the old broken arses we currently have....I;m looking at you Cruden...Thomson
-
Is anyone else going to the Chiefs-Blues game in Waihi? I've been to Waihi many times but never to watch rugby. Reports indicate a good crowd for the game.
-
Pretty comprehensive looking list
-
@Machpants Thanks for that. The sunwolves have over 60 players in their "Outs" section and about 25 in the "Ins" list. Their changing rooms must be about the size of a mega shopping mall if they had that many players on the payroll.

-

@Jailbreak7 I'd say the Chiefs are the last team that needs a midfielder. I think they have the best midfield depth in the comp.

Somehow the halfback manages to look short even in head shot profile photo.
Storms are predicted so it could be wet conditions.

Is this Tah language, or did Rob Penney introduce this? -
@Stargazer It’s so they don’t get confused what side of the scrum there on 😂
-
@mikey07 although if they struggle with that, will they actually know thier left from right?
-
it's pretty standard at lower levels to play "left and right" at flanker if that's how your trio is made up.
And i would say it's less about the set piece, and more about how they set up on the field.
