Based on Hirini's comments there are going to be retirements (like her) and maybe changes to the coaching team.

Wonderful way to cap off a long career by riding off into the sunset with gold in your saddlebags

Superb match. Quality of woman’s rugby sevens is up a long way since I last watched it.

Which is the argument for higher level comps at XVs. Teams won't rest on their current qualities but improve by competing with the best.
Just as in the mens at NPC players can get away on athletic ability against weakness rather than upping the skills across the board..
It takes a while but IMO that Women's Sevens comp was better than the men's one.

@majorrage I wonder how many new players that final attracted, it was a very good promo for the sport.

The NZ Olympic Team also does a haka for the medallists back at the village - saw a couple on their Tiktok.

blackferns: Can’t stop staring at them 😍🥇

blackferns: >How it started ➡️ how it’s going

In 2016, @michaelablyde and @shiray_9 were devastated when they didn’t make the playing side for Rio and spent the Games together, outside of the village, as travelling reserves.

In 2021, they both not only made the team but are now Olympic champions 🥇

A similar story for Hotham and Te Tamaki in Paris awaits.

I did find it strange that only 12 players were awarded medals on the dais but Willison also received a medal and joined the rest of the team after the anthem. If the squad was increased to 13 why not have all of them involved in the medal presentation?
