Stokes has had quite a Summer
One test match does not make a summer. What else has he done?

That was a shocking LBW decision by the umpire. Looked plumb in real time. Should have given it and allowed the poms a chance to review. That's why you save your reviews I guess
To show what a sportsman he is, should Stokes have reviewed the not-out LBW decision :face_with_stuck-out_tongue:

I was not expecting that result when I heard it on the radio this morning. Yesterday I was thinking that either Root or Stokes would have to carry the team if England were to win. No surprises then that it was the ginga from Chch.
This will make the last 2 tests much more exciting. But will England have the common sense to make some changes despite the win? When most of your top and middle order are struggling to reach double figures you can't keep relying on a miracle.

Credit to Australia who have bowled well throughout this game.
Actually the first hour this morning was shit
They still should have won it. They couldn't solve Stokes or get all his partners out. I thought the quick bowlers bowled bad lines in the closing stages, Stokes' partners barely had to play the ball

Pressure and fatigue.
Stokes hitting had fielders jumping on the rope. Paine was adjusting the field what seemed like every few deliveries.
The poor review decision, the fumble on the run out, the fact there was even a run out chance in that situation, the poor length balls to Leach, the sometimes reckless playing by Stokes on balls that just needed blocking - it was drama writ large and the pressure on both sides was evident.
For me the fact that England were even close after needing 70+ with one wicket and the urn on the line, makes the victory one of the best test close outs in my life time.

@NTA Bigger problem was bowling too short and bad lines against Stokes and Leach in the last hour. Not to mention Lyons' fumble. Enormous credit to the two England players, but they were helped by a bit of Aussie panic and an awful decision by umpire Wilson
