Parete with a yellow in preseason. Good luck with him this year Landers fans.
In midseason form already.
-
This ref is a bit too keen to hand out cards, IMO.
-
HT: Waratahs 7 - 14 Highlanders
-
So Fakatava and Mikaele-Tu'u have come on.
Great pass from Fakatava to Vella there.
-
Josh Dickson and Dillon Hunt are on the field now, too.
-
I'd like to see Mikaele-Tu'u and TBN next to each other. Mikaele-Tu'u looks much bigger, but I may be wrong.
-
That was poor defence from the Landers. Tahs score.
-
Another try for the Tahs. Great cross-field kick from the reserve first five.
-
Couldn't see who scored the try for the Highlanders; Gatland converted.
Highlanders take back the lead: 19 - 21
-
It was Daniel Lienert-Brown who scored.
And just when I was about to post that, the Tahs are in again.
-
Did the commentators say why they're having drinks breaks?

Just a guess, it would be heat protocols for pre-season games in Australia at this time of year. Doesn't appear to be too hot in Sydney tonight but it could be 40 degrees plus in Dalby next week for the Waratahs v Reds trial.
-
That was way too easy for the Tahs. Another try.
-
The game in Waihi today was played in ~20 min quarters to allow drinks breaks. Or is this game having more regular breaks?
-
Ugghh, the Tahs score in the last seconds of the game.
The Highlanders' defence and scrum still need a lot of work.
FT: Waratahs 40 - 21 Highlanders

How did Josh Ioane go at 12?
-
@Dice lol surely that’s not his position going forward. The guy will be a doormat for guys like Laumape.
-
@Dice I thought he didn't make much impact at 12. Maybe they're considering him there in case of injuries. Must say, Mitch Hunt was good at 10. It will be battle between those two, who will get to start in the 10 jersey. I expect a lot of rotation in the first few rounds, before they settle on one of them as the top dog at 10.
-
@Stargazer surely after last season All Black Ioane is the starting 10 unless they play him at fullback.
-
@KiwiMurph I don't think that's a given. If he was an established AB, maybe, but I think he'll have to earn it again.
-
-
From Cully's Stuff article:
Mauger also said that hooker Ash Dixon, whose back flared up during a scrummaging session and wasn't taken to Sydney, was hopeful of being ready for the start of Super Rugby. -
-
Such an exodus of quality players after a very very good half decade.
Not a lot to look forward to for Highlanders fans in reality. Perhaps a participation prize?

@Siam I'm pretty happy with the squad considering.
I've noted your half full glass and tipped it into my half empty one😀
Yep, bring it on and we'll chart the progress of a justifiably written off team and look for some upsets and player development.
(A churlish supporter would recognize that we've got 6 seasons up our sleeves before we stink up the place worse than the aucklanders have 😎)

FYI for anyone who doesn't know that todays preseason game vs the Crusaders is live on Sky Sport 1 at 5:55pm.

@Daffy-Jaffy Sadly due to "technical difficulties" todays match is now only avilable on Highlanders facebook page. Sky don't deserve us.

@Daffy-Jaffy the stream has gone down 😂

All 5 jerseys are part of the new adidas PRIMEBLUE range – made with Parley Ocean Plastic, which is recycled plastic waste intercepted from beaches and coastal communities before it reaches the oceans. As part of its ongoing mission to end plastic waste, adidas has committed to shift entirely to recycled polyester by 2024. To inspire rugby fans to join the movement, the designs of each teams alternate jersey features aquatic-style patterns and nods to the teams’ local environments: • The Highlanders jersey is designed to reflect the ocean on the southern Fiordlands. The water design provides a fresh take on the Highlanders’ tartan.

More talk about Josh Ioane being a 15 or 12 for most of the year
Probably the best thing for the Highlanders. Not sure it's in Ioane's best interest though
-
@Duluth if the Canes were smart they would go after him if he isn't guaranteed the 10 jersey at the Highlanders.
-
Any news about the "foreigners", Kapeli and Kuridrani ? They could be welcome additions to the team after the poor performance vs the Sharks.
