Neesham and Santner our last hope.

Too much to do 😞 Needed to get our hitters within 60-70 I think. Well played Aus, good side. Will take some beating

We are still a really dumb team that has a mental block against the big boys. No urgency shown by Guptill, Taylor and a few others. Kane was the only batsman who showed any sort of intent. We don't deserve a place in the semis tbh.

We're probably going to limp into the semis, unless we show some intent against the Poms, or Neesham does something spectacular here.

Aus and India are miles ahead of the pack at the moment. Should be a cracking final between the two.

    So, the problems.

Lack of production from the openers, and the runs Guptill did get were slow. Kane and Rosco needed to resurrect the innings but took 'slow and steady wins the race' too far. Fine if one of them batted through and got a big score for others to bat around, but that didn't happen. They can't carry us all the time. This meant the woefully out of form Latham would come in with a lot to do, but of course he couldn't and his innings contributed to the run rate getting out of control. Then a silly promotion for CDG and even sillier shot. Six down, run rate getting OTT and only one hope in Neesham. Too much to ask.

Absolutely. If you're going to survive and eat balls, you have to go big, take the team deep, and put us in a place to win. Otherwise you soak up time, ramp the run rate and leave with too much to do.

Also - their bowlers were better than I expected. They look in some form, looking forward to a cracking final.

OUr job now has to be to keep some wickets in hand and get moderately close. Must limit damage to the run rate.

This is just embarrassing. What a terrible batting effort. I do feel for Nicholls, rusty as hell and his first game he gets to face lowly unrated easy beats Australia who have a bowling line up of med slow part timers.
Congrats to Trent on his hat trick. Kane and Ross hit 70 between them. Everyone else sucked.

How important was the implosion from Braithwaite when the Windies had victory in sight..?,
We really would be in the gun..!

We got taught a lesson. Loved all the close ups of Guptill because his performance was Australia’s greatest asset next to Carey.

I have to wonder about the management of the batsmen leading into and during the tournament. As Mokey said, Nicholls hadn't had a knock in ages and was then asked to perform vs one of the top two sides in the tournament. He had been the incumbent but was ignored once fit in favour of the useless Munro. Guppy came from the IPL but played fuck all. Latham's prep was limited due to injury in the early warm-up games and the form back up has been ignored. Little wonder there is so much pressure on Kane and Rosco.

    Or the washout against India.

One of the problems was that we picked two spinners and neither of them did well. It let them off the hook from 92/5. Boult had to bowl six overs up front because we didn't pick Henry.

Stead seems to have imposed his own 90's approach to batting on the team, as well as poor selections and squad management.

I hope Stead has some kind of master plan ready to unleash cos that team had "experimental" written all over it.

Yeah the Sodhi selection was an odd one also. Didn't pick him on a pitch which out and out demanded they did, but then brought him in on a so-so pitch pretty much entirely only because it had been used.

Starting to really question Steads' selectorial nous.

Become a bit hardened to it over the years ,

Aussies nearly always seem to have our number when it matters ,

Pretty much a mirror image of the ABs Wallabies scenario

You can also question the wisdom of our poor build-up. The Nicholls Blundell non-selection (if he was previously fit) while the two out of form choices wasted all the reps against the lesser lights might come back to haunt us as the chances of getting those two up to speed now to slim. I think getting to the semis will be a good achievement for this team
