CWC Game #8 Black Caps v Australia

Contributions from Kane and Rosco but again, so much pressure on them due to the lack of return from the openers. Latham needs to repay some faith here.
They've promoted deGrandhomme which is obviously a sign they want to up the rate because we've been digging a hole the last half dozen overs or so.
-
We still have enough batting but it's damn tough against this Aussie bowling lineup.
That was really silly from CdG trying to clear an 80m+ boundary first ball. We needed a quickfire 40 odd from him.

We are cooked

OK we're done.

Latham gone for a painful to watch 14. Surely that's his last chance. Blundell in now either to six with Neesham promoted, or opening with Nicholls dropping to five. I think the latter option might give us spark and more solidity to the middle order.
Neesham and Santner our last hope.

Too much to do Needed to get our hitters within 60-70 I think. Well played Aus, good side. Will take some beating
Aus and India are miles ahead of the pack at the moment. Should be a cracking final between the two.

So, the problems.
Lack of production from the openers, and the runs Guptill did get were slow. Kane and Rosco needed to resurrect the innings but took 'slow and steady wins the race' too far. Fine if one of them batted through and got a big score for others to bat around, but that didn't happen. They can't carry us all the time. This meant the woefully out of form Latham would come in with a lot to do, but of course he couldn't and his innings contributed to the run rate getting out of control. Then a silly promotion for CDG and even sillier shot. Six down, run rate getting OTT and only one hope in Neesham. Too much to ask.

Absolutely. If you're going to survive and eat balls, you have to go big, take the team deep, and put us in a place to win. Otherwise you soak up time, ramp the run rate and leave with too much to do.
Also - their bowlers were better than I expected. They look in some form, looking forward to a cracking final.
