In hindsight, they might have looked at reserve days for the CWC. Though with the current forecast even they may not have helped much...
Is there 56 matches in the round robin? That would mean an extra 56 days of planning to accommodate and broadcast for the 'just in case' scenario. It would be a logistical nightmare and expensive too I imagine
Personally I think there should just be reserve days for finals
An alternative would be to have say 5 reserve days for the tournament and let any game use them. Broadcaster can plan for those specific days (for a tournament this dense there's sure to be at least a couple used) and the schedule isn't that much longer.
Also it’s England, not India or Australia. Travel is a piece of piss.

I find the NZ media funny talking up a game between the only two undefeated teams at the World Cup while failing to mention that all NZ have played are the gumboot teams to date and also that India absolutely handed NZ their arses this summer in our own conditions .

After our result against them in the warm up match I can see why we would be talked up even if India are the favourites.

I’d much rather play this game. Sure, one point is good and all, but history suggests this is the kind of game we can and often do win in world cups. Reminds me a lot of the set up vs eventual champs Australia in 1999. Would be a lot more pressure on India to win this game as a tournament favourite and a real bonus win for us.

What on earth has that got to do with how we might qualify for a semi final?
About as much as your anecdotal history of games we've won in World Cups
I think you meant to say "fuck all".
-
@Sneakdefreak There was nothing riding on the warm up game so the result doesn't matter a toss
-
well, this is surprising. Raining, but about to clear - and then no rain expected for a few hours. Could just get a game underway if drainage is good!

So if it starts it needs to get to a certain point (20 overs?) to constitute a game and the status of the game at that stage will have a massive bearing on how anyone is disadvantaged or advantaged? But if it were to be a delayed start by an hour or three it could be simply a shortened game. This will be very interesting.

Particularly if we bowl first and the Indian innings is truncated around 20-25 overs and we can get Boult through 7-8 overs quickly, which was the strategy in the '15 semi final.
Not really sure a 30 over game with multiple rain delays throughout is that much better than a NR without a ball being bowled.

For us getting into the semis, a NR is as good as a win I expect. Probably means we get there wtih 5 wins + a NR; so win 2 out of PAK ENG AUS WI. better than trying to win 3 out of those 5 with India

100%. I would take a NR out of hand purely out of pragmatism (although that would make today somewhat more dull without another fixture), but there does seem to be a few in the media saying that there is a moral/mindset benefit to wanting the game to happen.
But if you get a win over India in reduced overs without Dahwan, does that really give you major confidence going into a potential semi-final?
Very happy to just listen to Agnew, Waddle and Coney talk nonsense for six hours before they call this off.

Match abandoned.
I would’ve preferred us to play this one.
