Stormers v Crusaders
-
@African-Monkey Beat you guys Saturday hopefully 😎
-
@African-Monkey yeah true
-
@Stargazer Yeah well I think they are running scared because as Colin Mainbridge commented The McDonalds Security staff and some other customers there on the night have contacted the Crusaders with statements supporting the Players.
-
Today I was trying to explain the situation to some post-millennial staff of mine, and was told it was clearly an example of "Cancel Culture", an online/social media phenomenon where spurious manufactured outrage is used as a form of harassment in itself.
So I learned something new, which is nice.

@Nevorian said in Stormers v Crusaders:
Also just like to say it seems to be the backs who are behaving badly again, the forwards were wise and tucked up in bed
As you know, backs can go out because they know how to pick up chicks. The forwards tuck themselves into bed at the hotel so they don’t embarrass themselves.

What actual evidence is there that any of the Crusaders have done anything wrong here? As far as I can tell someone took offence at gestures for which he was not the intended audience and perhaps did not understand.
This does appear, as far as I can tell, an enormous storm in a tea spoon.

@ACT-Crusader although halfbacks usually needs a couple of forwards as bodyguards given thier ability to talk themselves into a corner

Interview (from yesterday) with one of the accusers in the alleged MacDonalds incident:
Crusaders accused of homophobic abuse in Cape Town
IMO, it seems from this interview that the inteviewee accuses the player/players of lauging & jeering at them and mocking them because of their appearance, but he doesn't say what they actually said that was homophobic. It also seems that only one player was initially filming him and, when asked to delete it, said he had already deleted it, and that it only escalated when the guy who was filmed demanded that the player showed him that he had deleted it and the player responded with "make me". Obviously, he doesn't say whether he himself had a threatening demeanor at that point, but he says that it was then that the other players also started filming him. Given what seemed to be unfolding, I don't think that's so strange. Anyway, it's when this allegedly happened that the security guard stepped in and said something like "these pussies are getting a hiding" (sp), something the interviewee says is very offensive in SA. The players don't seem to be involved at all after that. The so-called limp wrist gesture and use of a high pitched voice was an accusation addressed at the security person, not the players. Also whatever physical altercation there was, also only involved the security person.
So he didn't actually say what was homophobic about what the players said (what words they used). Even if they were laughing about their appearance, I don't see how you can call that a homophobic slur or even behaviour.

Interview with the Crusaders CEO Colin Mansbridge from this morning (RNZ):Crusaders' behaviour questioned as Mo'unga, Bridge play on
Includes an explanation about the procedure, team protocols in general and when touring, what in his view was meant in Mo'unga DM (separating the "not remembering what happened" from him "being intoxicated") etc.
Anyway, the Crusaders are also trying to get the CCTV footage from Maccas.
