@Kirwan The criticism that we have of the ref is with hind-sight, as it always is. And with hind-sight we can say that Ofa's "try" shouldn't have been awarded without going to the TMO and the on-field decisions in both Ofa's and Sowakula's case should have been the same. It wasn't and, therefore, there was inconsistency in officiating. Also, I think the TMO's decision on Sowakula's try was wrong and the try should have been awarded.
Consistently wrong is a really dumb thing for the officials to aim for. One mistake was made, wishing for a second to even it up is ridiculous.
And you are wrong about the try too. Clear knock on.

You're putting words in my mouth.

Different from you, I'm a neutral, and I disagree that it was a clear knock on. Nothing clear and obvious about it.

The TMO had already said it was fine.

No, seems like a fair summary of your post.
TMO and the Ref agree with my opinion
-
@antipodean Still, both situations should have been treated the same way.

I'll remind you the next time you don't agree with the ref and/or TMO.

You’ll need to form a line.

They both had the TMO involved, just one was incorrect (IMO).

Ugly win, but I guess I'll take that.
Good effort by the starting props to go 80.
Nice games by the two youngsters, Clarke and Plummer. Can Foxy come and help Plummer out with goal kicking though?
We'll need to play far better next week just to be competitive with the Crusaders.
-
late to this, but Sam Cane!!
That is all.

@Dice I guess there's no pressure on us to get anything next week so I wouldn't be suprised if we run them close maybe even get a losing bonus point. Can't see us winning however.
You could ask for Bonkers to be TMO again?
-
Right, finally managed to get a full viewing of the game.
Generally, Blues played some good rugby. If we didn't drop the ball all the farking time when we're on attack, we'd score shedloads of points. Must drive Leon crazy. Also - Plummers kicking wasn't terrible; a lot of wide conversions that just missed. He'll build I'm sure (relentless optimism here).
Righto, onto the controversial tries, and non-tries
Nanai - Touchie saw the ball down. The camera's didn't. No issue with the try being awarded.
Ofa - no try for me. Lost the carry, and while it went back initially, as soon as it hits a Chief it's a knock on. The commentators put you all crook too; the TMO looked at it and told the ref it was OK (or at least someone on the comms channel said it was fine). So they did have a look; but for me, that's 'no try'.
Sowakula no-try; line call. He lost it, and like Ofa should be a no-try as soon as it touches another player. That said, seemed a real line call.
Sam Cane - no try all day long and twice on Sundays. Propelled himself forward off the ground. Blues arguably stiffed twice; once for not letting play go on, and once again for not having a penalty. Jacko making up for the line call with Sowakula perhaps?
All in all, I think the only wrong call was Ofa. But 4 tries to 1; and all the rugby played by the Blues, it'd be a travesty if the weaker cripple got up and won Fark me, that feels like some monkey off my back as a supporter. @Snowy I'm going to get my human-skin paper bag and head down for the last home game against the Bulls with some optimism
-
@nzzp I think you summed it up very well, Ofa’s Try should definitely not been awarded , on Sowakulas try I would not have been too bothered if it went either way.
But I do believe the better team won but it will hardly have the Saders quaking in their boots.
Only upside is their long trip back from the republic and maybe no Kieran Read who directs their lineout. -
Not sure if it's been mentioned, but Otere didn't even get off the bench in this game. Actually, 3 players didn't get off the bench, which is pretty rare these days. I bet the coaches were almost going to make it 4, but they somehow convinced themselves to let Pulu come on.
