@Rocky-Rockbottom bring it on. I will change my avatar to the Blues logo if we lose and you change yours to the Canes logo if you lose?
It would be way more fun for the rest of us, if you didn't just change your avatar but also changed your username to "Blues4life" (Canes4life) or "BluesRockbottom" (@Rocky-Rockbottom).

@KiwiMurph Yeah, Black plays at one very slow pace which really does affect our attack. I thought his goalkicking was important so I could see why he got the nod but even that went to pieces tonight.
Man it sucks losing so much haha. Will we ever make the playoffs again?
Agreed.
I was pleased by Nock's service for the most part. Pairing his service and Plummer's flat attack and passing game looks like the Blues best bet for now.
-
@Stargazer i'm all game if you are @Rocky-Rockbottom. Just for the week though aye? 😂
-
@KiwiMurph thing I liked most from Nock, other than the fast passing, was the box kicks were huge. That’s been a problem area.
Ruru coming on at the end would be a huge improvement on Pulu, who at this point is a complete waste of time. Me might as well get the next rookie in for him, they can’t be worse.

@nzzp Fair enough but I don't see it myself. This team just reminds me of the first 2 years under Tana where we're competitive but lack in the technical aspects up front. Jackson copped plenty of criticism for our failure at set piece time yet Coventry hasn't seemed to make any improvement in that area.
Even though the scrum got done tonight, most of the time it's been solid - and the lineout has been OK as well.
The thing I don't understand, is why you guys haven't constructed some sort of lineout drive? Even though some of the drive defence was OK at times tonight, you still conceded three tries against it. And I think I'm right in saying it is one and two thirds seasons that you haven't managed a pure maul drive over the line?
Huge men in the Blues pack as well!

Fuck you guys suck at game scoring! Was reading through the thread to see the commentary but it was a whiner fest rather than play fest.
You need tips from @Stargazer on how to live update 😁
Off to stuff to see the result

Well, crap.
Brumbies game plan so simple - milk penalties, score tries against our shithouse maul defence.
In general, I think our general play defence has been solid this year. It's taken a bit to break down, and we've scrambled really well. We just have no answers to rolling mauls, and can't set one to save our life. Really don' tknow why - but it's been bloody years.
Anyway, some positives - we did enough to win (missed kicks), even with 14 players for 20 minutes. When we kept the ball in hand we looked good. I particularly like (@African-Monkey ) the direct running we do from time to time. When we do it, hard running onto the ball, it just opens up space outside. Three phases just after one of the tries and we made 40 m.
Ma'a seems to be getting better and better. His gas is probably still not there, but I'm wavering on him as a fringe squaddies for the RWC. He's no ALB at this stage, but still playing really really well.
Otere had a shocker. Can see why he got yanked ... but now we still don't know who our number 1 ten is. Sound familiar?
Scrum was a real concern. Seeing KT getting manhandled was unusual. Really not sure why - think loosies had a lot to do with it. Scrum's been weird - dominant against Chiefs and Landers (except for one PT vs landers), but absolutely smoked last night.
Ah well, that was one of the critical games to win and we dropped our bundle. Baby steps, and we go backwards after a few going forward. I'm still happier to go and support these lads - they may play dumb rugby from time to time, but by crikey no shortage of effort for teh 80. That's going to pay off at some stage (optimstic, I know)

GCT definitely needs to get dropped - time to give Scrafton a run. Also, let's pick up Whetton next year.
It'd also be nice if Lemalu just hung around Auckland next year and was part of the Blues Dev team, so we could call him up if we're still getting humped in the maul.
-
@Dice It would have been nice to have Lemalu around as he was brilliant in that area for Auckland and funnily enough we also struggled at M10 Cup level when he wasn't there (the Counties game in particular). I feel it's time to move GCT on altogether as well. He gives it plenty around the field but he lacks size at this level and is ineffective in the tight. If Scrafton wasn't made of glass then he would have seen a lot more gametime over the years and his position in the side wouldn't be in question.
Oh well, probably another loss coming up next week but at least we'll see some free flowing rugby unlike last night's dross.

@nzzp just watched last nights game, that’s an hour that I will never get back..about 10 minutes in reset scrums, thank god for my sky..
Agree with much of your coms..
I have always thought Otere Black is no more than a journeyman first five, even as up and down as Ihaia West could be, at least he had X factor..
Black came north with a reputation as a consistent goal kicker, but he’s not even showing me that he will win games consistently with his kicking, and the 2 offside penalties were unforgivable, basically piggy backed the Brumbies up the field to in a position to where they were able to sustain a long period of pressure and repeated infringements by the Blues.
I just wonder if they would be better off sticking with Plummer to see if the young guy can cut the mustard..give the young pairing of Nock and Plummer an opportunity as a combo..
Look at what the Highlanders have done with Josh Ioane admittedly the injury to Banks has helped, but to be fair Ioane has taken his opportunities and kept Gatland well and truly out of the frame..he’s got real X factor and more importantly..pace and having seen him knock over clutch kicks in short lived career..temperament..!A couple of other things, just making good practical decisions appears to be foreign practice to this group wether it’s in and around exit strategies ,defending multiple phases without conceding penalties..
The message does not seem to get through and unfortunately it’s like something out of repetitive dream..
It’s case 2 steps forward and about 4 back.. -
@Rocky-Rockbottom Money in the bank for me then. Bring it on.

The Bumbies don't have a bad scrum. They've got two class props and their forward pack like to do the hard, grafting work. You can be assured they're all pushing.

Yes, it was that period of play that put the Blues under tremendous pressure and contributed in a massive way the attitude of the referee who only had eyes for the defending team.
-
Brumbies are very one dimensional... but I disagree it made for a boring game. It was tight and the result could have gone either way.
Enjoyed the contrast of styles and the contest.
Nock was good for the blues, has an awesome box kick. I love watching Tom Robinson play
Akira’s season starting to look a bit like last year, he was unstoppable for the first half of the comp and faded towards the end.
Karl T looks fatter than last year, i thought the opposite was supposed to happen.

I wonder what his numbers are, because he doesn't look fit.

He's the only 20yr old flyhalf in the NZ SR squads.
For instance, some other youngish 10's are a few years older - Ioane is 23, Cameron is 22.I fully expect some silly errors with a 10 that green. His kicking from hand lacks distance and his placement isn't consistent enough yet.
However he is a much better passer, plays flatter, takes the ball to the line and is considerably better defender than Black. If his goal kicking is back where it was 12months ago he'll be an upgrade.I suspect if he does start it will be with his provincial halfback
-
@SammyC Agree. Where was Akira? He protects rucks but rarely takes up the ball. Needs to be bench for a week until he decides he wants to play. Not even close to being an AB. Seems like he is going backwards
When the Blues are playing it in the forwards they are pretty good.
