2019 Cricket ODI WC

Nice to see Will Young proving himself on this stage but I have to wonder who the hell this is benefitting? Australia, clearly, as they have a full squad on deck, but we only have three members of our WC squad playing FFS. So basically we're assisting Australia's preparations.

Yeah not sure why this series went ahead, unless originally they thought more of our WC squad would be involved?

It gives some of our backup players a run against a quality opposition so probably still worth it from our POV. But agree it benefits the Aussies more. The results have been better for us though!

The whole thing is a bit bizarre.
For some reason we rested Nicholls and Henry for this game - despite that they're going to the CWC and others who played are not. Nicholls made a duck in the first game. You'd hope it's because they're injured, but it could just be madness.
Meanwhile Guppy finally gets to bat in the IPL in place of Warner - gets a solid 36 - but, his team still gets knocked out of the Eliminator final. Warner having been the no. 1 batsman of the IPL isn't available, because this series takes precedence for Australia.
Guptill, Williamson, Boult and Munro all played in that game - presumably because their Australian teammates are away playing these warm-up games. Meanwhile there's presumably preople like Southee, Ferguson, CdG and Sodhi - whose IPL teams have finished, they've barely played, but they're not home for this warm up series.

Yeah very weird. I've just been told a few of our guys are set to play FC cricket in England between now and the WC though, which will be of immense value.
Apparently Will Young can't throw at all, hence being out of action after this game.

@shark Rossco is already in England playing for one of the counties on a short term contract and made a decent score in his most recent game. I think he's had five bats for two good scores and three failures. Google finds the article I read (attached). He - at least - is taking his preparation for the tournament seriously. He's got a couple more opportunities - but, I'm doubtful anyone else has - apart from whatever warm-ups we've got scheduled.
NZ Cricket simply don't appear to care about preparing for this tournament.
-
And Australia sneak home in the last game with a DL decision.
And Will Young makes another hundred.
Nicholls doesn't play again.
Stead's priority is that our IPL players spend some quality time with their families. He's taking a leaf out of Hansen's book and leaving no preparatory stone unturned!

Only a warm-up game, but Boult gets one second ball. India 4-1
-
Boult gets another in his second over. Pitch swinging - surely pitches won't be like this all World Cup?
India 8-2, Kohli 5* -
Can we just fuck Tim Southee off now please. Reviews a ball clearly going down leg - what a waste. He will get tonked this WC and cost us.

He’s turning Trent Boult into the old quote about Hadlee; like facing the World XI at one end, but the Ilford 2nd’s...
Would love a retro performance like the 2015 7-for v England tho....
-
Boult with another. 3 in 3 overs. India 24-3.

I'd rather we just drop him.

CDG gets Kohli. India 39-4
