Big Red for 6 Black?

That’s a no from me for purely selfish reasons..need him for the Mitre 10 Cup ..

Dalton and Karl got picked after one season, so it’s possible especially considering the lack of options at six. But it would be a surprise.
Karl was injury forced
Dalton was in trial on the nh tour. For the RWC forwards I can't see them going past people with plenty of experience.
Possible, but I'd be really surprised. Outside backs are easier to integrate. Also, I suspect they have plans for Akira before Tom.
Great time to be a blues fan...😀

First time I've seen that on the fern for years! Without a sarcastic tone that is.
Good on ya, it's a nice feeling when the rain finally stops🙂
Actually, we're seeing the team on an upswing. Still a long way to go, but we're on our way, and I feel far more optimistic than I have for years. The board, the coach and the playing group are starting to deliver. Good to see. Arguing about how good a rookie will be is a discussion we haven't had a lot of over the last few years.
The drought:

I watched the replay and followed Big Red (very easy to spot)
By god he went hard out for the whole game.
Very physical.
Him at 6, then Read switching to 6 for Akira Ioane to come on at 8 for the last 25-30. Sounds good to me.Fark,I just barred up

And if Read gets injured in the first 5 minutes we play 75 with them.
Would rather one at a time...

@Kirwan said in Big Red for 6 Black?:
@nzzp yeah was meaning in a large squad pick, not as a starter.
I’d rather they moved Read to six since he now plays like Kaino used to. Would leave space for a free running number eight, like Read used to be....
Yep, Read to 6, Akira to 8. Scott Barrett and Shannon Frizell as back up blindsides. Then Big Red. I wouldn't bother with Liam Squire unless he can regain his form and fitness of 2016.

@ACT-Crusader
Agreed. A risk.
I also feel we might need some points of difference for the World Cup. We looked bloody predictable at times last year.
Akira (and perhaps Patty T as an impact lock) as an impact loosie are real points of difference. (admittedly, it could go wrong) -
He's playing well, but I'm very reluctant to throw up rookie players as being ready for All Black selection so early into the SR season. The professional Rugby calendar is a marathon, not a sprint. Let's see how he's performing later in the year in the Mitre 10 Cup before we ordain him as being our next All Black no.6? I know Karl Tu'inukuafe made the All Blacks and performed well in his debut SR season, but that's extremely rare and definitely not the 'norm'.

I know Karl Tu'inukuafe made the All Blacks and performed well in his debut SR season, but that's extremely rare and definitely not the 'norm'.I agree it probably won't happen, and, yes, it is too early, but fuck it speculation is fun.
Nehe Milner-Skudder, Brodie Retallick, Sam Whitelock, Christian Cullen, Conrad Smith and Owen Franks played, and played well for the ABs in their debut Super seasons.
There are probably many others I haven't thought of.

I think quite a few guys made their Super Rugby debuts when he did.

You're right my comment wasn't worded well. The point I was trying to make was that it's extremely hard for any player, let alone a rookie, to maintain excellent form from February to October, whether they end the season playing provincial Rugby or for the All Blacks. It's not unusual for rookie players to start the Super Rugby season really well, but then fizzle out as the season progresses. -
@MajorRage
Sure, but early season form is also often misleading. It favours players who have great off seasons and pre-seasons. And early season form is oftehn not sustained. For example this time last year Ben Lam was been talked up as an All Black winger.
