@mariner4life Geez didn't West Coast look like they have run out of gas at the pointy end last night
I'm willing to cut them a little slack because Clarkson and the Hawks pull off these wins all the time

Geelong whack the fuck out of Carlton to go top.
West coast trip up on Hawthorn to fall to 5th! They can get back to 4th only if the Lions can somehow beat Richmond today. Lions will come top, or more likely 3rd and back to the mcg in a fortnight
8th still up in the air. Bulldogs win they are in. For either Adelaide club to get in they both need to win, and by a margin.
Brisbane should have top 2 sewn up , Richmond would have to win by something like 100-37 to go ahead on percentage, that ain’t happening,
Now if Richmond did win today , we could have Richmond v Brisbane backing up again at the Gabba next game and west coast out of the 4, west coast and hawks have turned this on its head , Collingwood are back in the 4 for keeps now and have become a very real threat if they weren’t already,
If Richmond lose it’s cya later, I’m hearing grimes could be a late withdrawal, with rance and stack already out that could make life very difficult down back

yep there is no doubting Clarkson had done his homework on tactics and match ups but also some of the key eagles looked tired - Gaff and Yeo and Darling

I actually think every team in every code has its off day where it can look vulnerable ,
We see it often enough with the allblacks , no reason it doesnt happen in other codes
-
This is the advantage the MCG tenants have. Lions have been flying, playing well everywhere. But this is only our 2nd go on the G all year.
And 2 weeks from finals we are finding we lack a bit of foot speed for these open spaces.
Bit late to do anything about it now. We're competing hard but we lack a bit of pace. Neale doing everything he can, Zorko leading by example.

Fuck you Dusty you tattooed bogan bikey fuck

Nah. Eagles had to win. Couldn't make up 8 points.

And the buggers don't have to travelas much.
I recall back in Adelaide listening to some Vic analyst (Robert Walls maybe?) bemoaning how many "away" games they play compared to the inter-state teams.
Well fuck, half those "away" games are in Melbourne
-
But your home games are more distinct home games against interstate teams , Richmond for example played 3 interstate teams at the g , rest were melb teams, so it becomes mostly a neutral venue .
Little advantages and disadvantages everywhere
End of the day, plenty of interstate teams have won premierships since the afl begun if they are good enough , and apart from hawthorn, tenants of the mcg, haven’t been that successful really
-
Mainly because most of the MCG tenants have been garbage for years.
My point is, to win a flag you have to perform on the MCG. When you only get two games there a year that's tough, especially for new/Young teams.
Paint it any way you want, playing on the finals ground 13 times a year is an advantage.

yeah it has to be an advantage for collingwood or richmond if they play a grand final against an interstate team , granted
actually getting there is another battle though ,
I think Brisbane will better for their experience yesterday , they werent blown out of the water and will gain confidence from that I believe
-
Alright who you got for the finals? My picks in bold.
Week 1
West Coast v Essendon
Geelong v Collingwood
GWS v Bulldogs
Brisbane v RichmondWeek 2
Collingwood v West Coast
Richmond v BulldogsWeek 3
Geelong v Richmond
Brisbane v West CoastGrand Final
Geelong v West Coast -

As a matter of interest who will get the mandatory MCG for the first week of finals - will it be the Geelong Collingwood game? The other three games all interstate.
Geelong v Colllingwood yep
so I suppose in a way Geelong will be happy to get some much needed practice at the G but surely more of a home game for the Pies

Friday night footy, first week of the finals with two big Victorian clubs at the G will draw 80-90K. AFL administrators will be laughing all the way to the bank because it will also draw a big TV audience and advertisers will be getting on it.

I think we would have learned a heap yesterday. And yes, i am actually backing us in at the 'gabba.
Week one of finals i can only really see Bombers v West Coast being a bit one-sided, all the others are too close to call.
I wouldn't want to be playing the Bulldogs at all, they are on fire, and the Bont is a fucking beast.
-
and, because of the layout i have, i get to see my preseason predictions
Not too bad in picking Collingwood, West Coast and Richmond in the premiership hunt (hardly a hot take)
Had Geelong in the 8, but not near the top
Didn't see Brisbane comingMade the same mistake as everyone else with Melbourne. Likewise Adelaide.
Really underestimated the Dogs
So probably closer than last year to be fair

And while we are talking about the weirdness of the draw and the advantages , disadvantages of home grounds etc , this is how it can go the other way, can’t even remember the last time Richmond played at the Gabba, wasn’t this year , wasn’t last year , perhaps 2017 or 2016 .
