@canefan Seriously impressive by the 49ers.
They just absolutely blew out a serious playoff contender.
New WR Sanders fit in nicely and the 49ers managed to get their running game cranking by smartly avoiding the stout middle defence of the Panthers. Of course the 49ers defence continues to be amazing also.
Panthers had a 500 record and were three games behind the Saints. This isn't the same Panthers of a couple of years ago.
49ers do look great though. NFC playoffs should be dynamite. Not so sure about AFC though. Pats defense is all time and likely to close down anyone else that gets in their way.
-
at one point today the Pats defense had scored more touchdowns than they had given up. That is astounding in their 8th game.
It is going to be very hard for anyone to beat new England this year. They will meet a good team in the SB though.

500 record? Panthers were 4-2 coming into the game on a 4 game win streak.

Jimmy G has his best game of the season to win another one for the 49ers. Over 300 yards passing, 4 TDs and no picks.
Arizona are already super competitive. The gadget Arizona offense gashed the 49ers defense. Murray playing well for a rookie.
The NFC West is arguably the best division in football.
-
I don't think too many people would argue with you about NFC west being the best division. Who else is there? Maybe NFC North or AFC South, but both a long way off.
At least one of those teams will get screwed in the wildcard race because of the toughness of divisional match ups, maybe even both of them. Meanwhile, the Bills will probably sail into the playoffs on the back of 2x dolphins and 2x jets games. Jets-Bills play week 17 so hopefully we can return the favour from 2015 and stuff their playoff run at the final hurdle.

Anyone see the end of the Chiefs v Titans game this morning? Crazy stuff.
Chiefs lead by 5. Get the stop on downs, so handed field position in a good spot. Two run plays gets them to 3rd and 2. They opt for a pass play that Mahomes ends up taking the knee. Field goal attempt to take it to 8. The snapper goes early, the holder isn't ready, and is forced to chuck it away. Turnover, and 10 yard penalty with 44s to go. Titans throw 3 plays and score. I think the Chiefs then have a blocked field goal to tie it up.
Mental last couple of minutes.

the NFL seems drunk today with the results coming through.
-
Bengals now into the box seat as the Jets and Dolphins both win.
Jets win the battle of New York, but probably not enough to save Gase in the eye of the fans (early this week fans paid to fly 'Fire Adam Gase' banner behind a plane. Question is, what's the magic number before Chris Johnson decides to sack him.
-
Lamar with his second game with a perfect passer rating this year.
MVP!

The Dolphins winning might be upsetting the front office, who really want the #1 pick. But their coach, and the culture he appears to be creating (those guys are really trying) might be better than the higher draft pick, as suddenly Miami doesn't look like a dumpster fire next season, and might be somewhere people want to play.
-
@mariner4life Same thing that happened with the Brooklyn Nets. Following that example, the risk for the Dolphins now is the high-profile free agent signing comes in and completely ruins team morale, and results go south as a result.
Miami should end up with the second-ranked QB in the draft. Bengals will take one with the top pick, but I don't think the Jets are ready to abandon Sam Darnold yet.

Yeah Darnold has shown enough to justify keeping him. Plus the offensive line play has been the worst in the league, the play calling has been atrocious and the young skill players haven't really step up (or they've been injured in the case of Herndon).
Jets priorities in the draft will be OL, CB, EDGE. Would not surprise me at all if they trade down, especially with Joe Douglas's reputation as a dealer. Jerry Jeudy might be a temptation if he's available wherever they draft.
The problem for the Dolphins (and Bengals) is that ideally you want your franchise QB to be the last guy you draft rather than the first, and at the very least you want your OL ready first. Darnold and Luck both show what happens when you put a top tier QB behind a rubbish line.

this league is all about the o-line now. If that's fucked, you can't do anything. And young quarterbacks just get chewed up.
I think the last few years has shown that elite quarterbacks are actually really bloody hard to find, so you are better off getting a guy with a bit of talent, and putting all the other pieces in place. Good o-line, a running threat so you can run play-action, pass rush.
And a winning culture. Throwing talent at a team used to losing doesn't just magically work, look at the Browns.

Yep, if a team has decent lines of both sides of the ball they can generally game plan around any other weaknesses. A defensive line can generally be covered if you have an elite secondary but the o-line can't be covered in the same way.

The Lamar Jackson experience is also revealling, and I wonder if more teams will look to design their offence around their QB and his strengths rather than plugging someone into a set system and expecting it to work.
You could mount an argument that other QBs in Lamar's draft class would have far better results if their respective teams took the same approach as the Ravens.
