Black Caps v Bangladesh

Just noticed that if Henry can take two wickets a match for the next 11 games he'll be the fastest ever NZ bowler to 100 ODI wickets (a match or two ahead of Bond).
The problem for Henry is that him playing 11 games for the Black Caps might take him 2 or 3 years.

He's definitely first choice now.

4 years too late in my opinion. I hope you are right.

The Bang Bros all out for 226.

I get annoyed when batters, and Guptill just did it now, get talked up and praised for hitting a six over boundary fielders. It is a high risk shot that is only a slight miss hit away from being a stupid way to get out.
-
BCs win by 8 wickets with 83 balls to spare. Guptill gets another century scoring 118.

Interesting seeing the selections getting a lot of criticism on the radio. I think the selectors have done a good job over the summer. The questions which we had before the summer regarding the World Cup team have basically been answered. All we have to do is bring Santner in for Astle and that is our World Cup team. We know what our best team is and they have had a good amount of time playing together.
-
When Guptill got out, why did they send in Ross Taylor? What was the point?
Why not send in e.g. Todd Astle? Or de Grandhomme?
It's like subbing on Richie McCaw for the last 10 minutes, when the ABs are up 50-0 and there's another dubutant loose forward on the bench.
-
This series is nothing more than a chance to get a bit of form under the belt. Good to see Guppy cashing in, and Kane making a score (he's had a bit of a lean run in ODIs this year).
We need to sort our fielding out though, that's going to cost us dearly against the top teams.

It is a bit of a thorny one. In one sense he is a top order batsman and his job is to get runs and as it worked out 21 not out gives the average
a slight boost but I guess the flipside is perhaps he wants to protect the average and as you say send someone in to whom it isn't such an issue? It's kinda like using a night watchman in tests which I feel is tough on a bowler who may have slogged away all day and then get asked to do something he isn't a specialist in.
-
I think if they are now preparing for the World Cup, they need to play as they would at the World Cup, so if bowling first is correct for the conditions, do it, and if moving towards a clear win, presumably in England they would continue with Taylor in similar circumstances.

So I guess to what degree has this season has been......
a) Black Caps being very good
b) India being off the charts
and c) Sri Lanka/Bangladesh being shithouse
I'm picking major elements of all three.
HaHa, the Saffas might debate you on (c)

Yeah Munro isn't making the CWC squad now. Probably opens up a slot for Sodhi if Stead wants to take three spinners to the CWC.
